Smile Milk Fever-hypocalcemia

Last year I lost my best Alpine milk producer to milk fever. I was devastated. I have very high milk producers (usually 1 gallon or more per day milkers) and I called the vet several times and finally after finding a vet that would come out lost her. I learned a lot from that experience. I started noticing another high producer giving me more than 1 gallon milking and also feeding her kid then all of a sudden decreased milk production. I read on this forum about calcium carbonate. I was determined that I was not losing this doe. Ordered some calcium carbonate (agricultural lime suitable for animal feed which is a caking type) and started mixing in my feed. This doe is doing wonderful and is milking at least 1/2 gallon while still feeding her doe. Another doe has also picked up her milk production. Thank you so much for this information! I wish I would have known this years ago!

I also am using calcuim carbonate on my goats and my milk cows also and it is interesting to see the milk supply increase. I guess I wasn't expecting that. It is most obvious in the cows.

The knowledge here is amazing and these ladies and men will help you save a goat in a heartbeat, no pun intended, maybe!
