Help with our buck
Our wonderful little buck is acting off. He will not eat, will not drink. We thought at first it was pneumonia (No temp) then thought he was constipated. We have tried to see how his penis looks but cannot get it out (don't have a clue in what we are doing.)
We drenched him with AC. Any thoughts in what it could be? I am for real starting to think we are not suppose to have goats.

More info please Donna about the little buck. If they have UC usually you can see what looks like Ice crystals on the hair around the penis.
Watch to make sure he is peeing & pooping & if that's OK I would suspect pneumonia. they don't always have the normal symptoms for pneumonia but still may have it. Do you have a stethascope to listen to his lungs?
if you don't see him pooping like normal I would guess a blockage? What about Bloat?

Took his temp again and it was normal... so I have no clue what the deal is. Inside his penis looks normal but we cannot get it out. It doesn't feel swollen to me and I do not feel anything when rubbing it.

If he hasn't peed, he is probably blocked up inside the urethra.

Alice would you feel a block? There's nothing there. He's eating now we are waiting to see him pee and poop.

I think it might be too hard to feel a goat bladder unless it was really full. I think you should call a vet Donna I would also give him an enema just to have all the bases covered.

I would also give him Banamine for pain and inflamation.

If it is UC give him 10000 units of vitamin C everyday until he pees. Definitely give him banamine and a B12 shot(this will just color his urine so you can tell if anything is making it through). This was the only thing that saved a little buckling, about the same age.
If he has a blockage it has now irritated the lining, which swells it up, which creates a bigger blockage - the banamine will help with this. I even put cold packs on the buckling's penis. I was thrilled when all of a sudden he peed a huge puddle.
I lost a buckling by only using the AC - I now throw my arsenal at them. 3 vets now refer people to me.

Well he has pneumonia folks. Honestly didn't think it was that but ended up being. He's picking at beet pulp and whole oats. Also we didn't see him pee but its wet. Hopefully we caught it in time, he's in the girls barn in his own little stall.
We've been talking all night with a wonderful lady vet. Very sweet lady.

Well I am glad itms pnemonia instead of UC. That is easier to deal with. The snotty nose tipped me off. Glad he is peeing. I personally would not mess around with otc antibiotics. Excenel works best here. That for 3 or 4 days and a couple days of banamine and he should be right as rain. Good luck with him!
