What is the dificiency? Baby stands on heels?

This guy is now about 26 hours old. Almost lost him. Had to bring him in to warm him in water. Gave him concentrated paste colostrum even before he got mother's colostrum.
He is still weak but getting stronger. He spent the night inside and was fed through the night. It is warmer and sunny here this morning. We have just come in from reintroducing him to Cecelia. He found the teat finally and she is cleaning/licking again, so he is outside while I have lunch.
Yesterday was so terrible I did not eat!

He is not standing properly. It is like he is rocking back on his heels. Seems I read this some where, but I can not find it with a quick search.

Need food(Me). I'll tell the story later.

Did he get a Bo-Se shot or the liquid from a couple vitamin E capsules. That may help how he stands. After that they should straighten out on their own. Maybe being crammed inside Cecilia has something to do with it too.

I am so sorry yesterday was so terrible. When your ready & want to talk we'll all be here to listen.
I am so glad Cecilia is doing so good though & the little buckling getting stronger.

I usually do a quarter cc of BoSe for the babies with bent feet. I have a sneaking suspicion that they would all clear up on their own, but the BoSe does speed up the process.

I guess this is just like most things with these darn goats. There just does not seem to be easy to find exact answers! LOL

From what I have found researching it ranges from;
1.The legs are just weak with large breeds like nubians and give it a few days to see if it gets better on its own.
2. Splints even if home made with tp roll cores and vet wrap
3. No, do not splint
4. BOSE or selenium.

I am one of those that does not automatically BOSE. I live in an area that is only slightly defecient in selenium. I use Tennessee co-op feeds and loose minerals that both provide selenium along with other minerals and vitamins. The local goat people and vets I have spoke to do not recommend using it. There is also a real possibility of selenium toxicity.

I did provide this little guy with Kaeco Colostrum Oral Gel. It is a product sold by Jeffers.
"A nutritional product for newborn goats which contains dried colostrum milk, a source of live (viable) naturally occuring microorganisms and vitamins." Vitamins A, D3, E, B12

My baby donkey had wonky feet for a long time b4 they straightened out. I was very worried. But the people I talked to (vets, farriers, horse people (thanks Tallabred))said that in time they will straighten out. I so much didn't want to wrap them or splint them so I was happy with the answers I got. And they are fine now
If you have any Vit E capsules on hand I would cut one and squirt it in his mouth. That's easy. Just my opinion too

I have a theory that the hormone responsible for mom's relaxed ligaments for kidding purposes may also be involved in baby's relaxed foot ligaments. This is only a theory, though.

it just happens and it clears up on it's own quickly....one of the bucklings (nubian) born here last week was back on his heels at birth...gave him a1/2cc of BoSe...he is just bfine now...can't even remember which buck it was LOL...I am sure he would have straightened out on his own, withot the BoSE almost 10 years and LOTS of kids I have only splinted one kid (a doeling out of an old doe who had a jard pregnancy) doeloinf was knuckling over on her front vet...wrapped them in vet wrap for three days...she is still.here..grown off well..nice feet and legs...her babies are due mid april...

good luck with the buck

I also don't use Bo-Se but I do make sure when each kid is born to give them the liquid from 2 Vitamin E capsules. I would try that & give it a few days to a week. I bet they straighten out.
I would not splint them either.
