Fencing today and order two LGD

Yesterday my best show girl got attacked by the neighbors "dog" they have had it living there for years they say but they do not own it because it just walked up one day. Well if you feed it and it lives at your house for at least the 5 years we have been here its yours!!!

Anyways the fence will be done within the next 6 weeks and I have order two LGD from my breeder. I would get them now but my luck they would get out.

She's fine by the way just ticks me off though.

Glad she's ok! It's an awful thing to have to deal with but I'm glad for you her injuries aren't worse.

Oh no... (guess it they don't own the dog...then they won't mind you shooting it, if it comes back after your goats..I have ZERO dog tolerance.. if it goes after my goats.. it better be running when I get to the door.. be it a stray, a neighbor's dog or even one of our own) I heard the goats yelling and running towards the house from the woods one day.. Behind them having a grand time was the folk's to the north's pitbull/boxer mix.. goats made it to the house safe and no worse for wear.. So instead of the gun, I grabbed a buggy whip.. jumped into the car.. sped to their house... actually beat the dog home.. (the neighbors had company.. everyone was sitting on the porch sipping sweet tea when I came screeching into their yard).. Never said a word to them (at that point).. waited by the fence for the dog.. as she came under the fence, I let her know in no uncertain terms.. "I'm an evil scary woman... stay away from me, my goats & my land"... No one on the porch moved, they seemed frozen in shock. I told them this was the one freebie for them and their dog.. next time dog wasn't making it home and they would be paying me for my goats... Will say I never saw the dog on my land again (granted they don't speak to us LOL, but that's no great loss).. this all happened BEFORE we got the LGD's.. NOW .. no dog makes it home, if they get on the land.. and I don't have to be the one who does it!

again, glad the damage wasn't worse

Yarrow that sounds like something I would do. The bs thing is unless the dog is attacking we can't shoot it.

I am so glad your girl is not hurt too bad but still how scarey!!
Hubby & I are both just like Susie!, we Love animals but no tolerance for anything chasing any of our animals. That's exactly why we are getting LGD's too besides the Coyotes around here seem to get bolder & bolder.

You can, just remember the 3 S rule! If someone comes looking for a dog you haven't seen it!!

I have NO tolerance for that behavior and deal with it promptly and don't give second chances!!

Yeah, that's pretty much the way we feel also. Dog? What dog? Never saw it around here...

Oh you guys will get tons. They are not even born yet so they won't be ready until like June. Its my birthday gift to myself (June 2nd is mine). They are a 1/4 Great Pyrenees and 3/4 Anatolian. The dad is beautiful and the best guard dog I have ever seen.

I am sorry this happened to you. So glad your goat is OK. I had a beautiful doeling 13 years ago and she played with my dogs and was to my heaviest milker. Neighbor's dogs got into my fence and killed her. That day I bought 2 female LGD Maremma/Akbash. They were the best I have ever seen. Raised with dairy goats and 8 weeks old. They both passed away in the past 6 months and I have 2 Great Pyrenees and 1/8 Maremma males. They will be 2 in June and were partially trained by the females. Nothing and no one gets onto the property so I feel very safe. My animals are protected. Livestock dogs are the way to go. Here in VA it is a felony to shoot a dog so this is the only avenue I have to keep my critters safe!
