Trub's Big Surprise

I didn't expect her to kid out for at least another week. I mean, she hardly looked uncomfortable at all. Sure, her ligs were a little loose, and Nick thought she was acting a bit "off" yesterday, but those who have seen my missives about Trub's kiddings in the past know that 1.) Trub lays around for DAYS before kidding out, in obvious discomfort, demanding I bring her food and water, singing and moaning 2.) We have PLENTY of warning.

Nick got home from work first tonight and started choring. Didn't see Trub at first, but didn't panic. Well, he didn't become unsettled until he went into the goat shed and saw Trub standing there with .... TA-DA!! Two doelings!

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed and, frankly, shocked that she didn't have quads. With the exception of her first kidding (trips), Trubby has always thrown quads. Twins? Lubed up my arm (after consulting with my Fairy Goatmother Emily), and slid in up to my elbow.

Nothing.

We've not seen any afterbirth, but it is possible that she actually passed and ate it.

<sigh> So relieved that she is well and good and the doelings are adorable and, well... FEMALE!

Pics following.

Now I am REALLY curious to see what Trub's daughter, Jet, throws. Time will tell with those. I linebred back to her father for milk and disposition.... and for convenience, truth be told.

Yes big beautiful doelings! Way to go Trub, you need to get into counseling, advising your sisters everywhere about the errors of the Doe Code.

Add a new paragraph to the Doe Code!

Thall shalt not allow the humans to become complacent. Just when they think they *know* you, throw them a curve ball. If you usually give lots of warning, then just don't.

Who looks happy: Me or Trub? LOL!

Y'know, I didn't even weigh them. Now that you mention it, they are pretty good sized.

I thought they looked huge too but I'm used to the mini's or nigerians. They are stunning though & so nice that they are both girls!

This kind of curve ball I could live with.

Dan meant you. I keep having to explain who Ivy is, that she's married to Nick, who did the pit BBQ. EVERY time I say something about you or your goats.

Beautiful!! Congrats on the successful birth and healthy babies!

It is funny how just when you think you have them figured out they change it up for you!! Their way of keeping you on your toes.

All right. At the insistence of some crazy goat women on FB, we weighed the doelings.

The little one (the one on the left up there) weighs 10 pounds. Her sister is 12 pounds.

Yeah. That's pretty decent sized...

They are beautiful! Is the one without the tan trim a roan or is that just the way the light hit?

Those are some big kids! How much do her kids usually weigh at birth? She may have only had two, but wow, she might have had nearly the same weight's worth of kids as if she had 4.

Congrats! I was going to say...either you are one VERY small person...or those kids are a pretty decent size! I'm sorry that you didn't get quads, but at least you have some healthy little girls! Congrats!! (And once again...feel free to send them my way if you run out of room! )
