drenching kids

Wow! I've drenched lots of adult goats in my life but have never actually done kids before. We've been trying to get dimethox down some kids and I don't think they got much of it. I'm wearing an awful lot of it though! Adult goats aren't near as difficult!

I've had goats for over 10 years and as of this morning I feel like an idiot.
I've never bothered drenching kids before because they all end up as dog food and it wasn't worth the effort (although I've never had any issues), but these ones are to be sold so I thought I'd go for healthy kids. Dog food looks a lot better!

Do you dam raise or hand raise? if you hand raise them just put it in their bottle. If not good luck. It's nasty stuff.

I read on the Fiasco site that you shouldn't mix it in the bottle...the milk does something to it to not make it effective. Also....I would think that would ruin the taste of the whole bottle. Yuckers!

I've put it in the milk before, seemed to work fine.

HOWEVER, the heavier they are the more of a dose there is... and it does give a bad flavor to the milk. I couldn't get kids to drink past about 50lbs live weight , lol.

This is why I'm excited to be using Baycox this year. ONE dose.

You can try adding a sweetener to the dimethox.

Last year I had a few that wouldn't take it in the bottle. Wore it a few times then found a trick that works "most" of the time for me. I put my thumb over the front of their nose as I drench, have to swallow to breathe.

I hold them tight with their chins up, and only push in a bit at a time in the corner of the mouth, push a bit more after they swallow. Practice makes perfect! You'll get the hang of it!
