Pics of the Girls.

After the heartbreaking loss of my Brutus I brought these two little angles home with me. I am a little concerned that they are to thin. they look fine, but when I rub my hands down their backs I can feel their spine and hip bones. They have been wormed and are due another worming Saturday. Their Poo looks normal. I keep hay in the kennel with them and let them forage during the day. I have been giving them a small amount of feed in the evenings, but have heard mixed things about doing that. What exactly should I be feeding them and how much?

Ashley 10/06/12 (white)
Cleopatra 11/01/12 (beige)

Please give me any advice on how to keep these girls healthy and happy.

I think the toddler swing set with modifications turned out good and they seem to enjoy it. I plan on fixing the Little Tykes cabin as their house as well.

Oh they are adorable!!! yay! I would do 1/2 cup of hole oats and 1/2 cup of BOSS for the 2 of them to share once a day and see how they do. Plus they need some treats...raisins are good

Oh they are cuties! Enjoy them. I can't see their condition real well in the pics but they don't look terribly thin to me.

They are so freaking adorable! I am beyond jealous! <3

I would look for goat creep and feed them free choice hay and goat creep along with their bottles. (is there such a thing as goat creep?)

They are beautiful. If the breeder didn't already start them on coccidiosis prevention I would do that right away.

A little whole or crimped oats along with their hay would be fine. I don't think I would do equal parts of oats & sunflower seeds if you want to do both. A bout half the amount of sunflower seeds as you do oats is the way I would go.

There are pelleted feeds that some folks use for growing kids & have a coccidiostat in them to help with prevention.

What is BOSS and do I still need to be giving them bottles at 4 and 5 months old?

This is crazy... My friend has the bigger babies of the same age. She went down to barn and another buckling was dead. This one was taken for necropsy to make sure we didn't have something going on only thing he (vet) could find was slight intestinal parasites which we are treating for. I feel like I need to put a camera in the barn with my two and watch them 24/7 or diaper them and keep them in the house with me.

BOSS is Black Oil Sunflower Seeds..

That is crazy that another buckling is dead. I can understand why you would be nervous about your girls now. Just hang on to the fact that it's boys and not girls that are dying. (((hugs)))

Were they weaned off the bottles? Some people wean as early as 2 months....some wean at 6 months. But if they are already weaned I would keep them that way.

They are Nigerian Dwarf. When we got Brutus and Ash (the white one) they where almost 12 wks old and still with their mama. I gave them 2 bottles a day for 2 weeks and weened them from there. I got Cleopatra at the same age and tried really hard, but could not get her to take a bottle.

The toys are things my kids (the human ones) have out grown. The DH Ask me if I was going to teach them to drive the Power Wheels as well. I just smiled and told him I was going green and reusing them and the next thing I was going to do was take the seat out of a 1970 Chevy truck that hasn't ran in 10 years into a chicken coop. He didn't like that idea. lol

The girls are doing good. Day 3 of 5 with daily wormer. As to their size they are smaller than the other kids their age. These are my first goats so I don't know if this is typical or not. I thought they would get up to around 40 lbs. I guess we will see.

Does anyone with ND's have any thing to add to this?

They are adorable!

Can't really tell from the pics, but they don't look too thin to me. Their coats seem a little rough, but as you're treating for parasites, I'd just give them time, good food, and lots of lovin'.

I only have one ND - a wether named Doober. He's a good guy, but I have to watch him at the feed trough. He has a tendency to get chunky.

Part of that rough could have been my kids(human) wooling them and carrying them around all over the place. I have been really watching them close and have finally stopped freaking out (some what). It is snowing here in N GA. I have them in the barn with the chickens in a large dog kennel with 3 sides covered. I keep telling my self most of you live way north and don't keep your goats in your house. I do think I will make them little fleece coats. My daughter wants to put bows in their hair.

I would start them on a cocci prevention and a good wormer (which seems you are doing). I personally do not wean babies until 6 months and cry when I do. I LOOOOOVE my bottle babies or I should say now bucket babies since we put them on a lamb bar.

They sure are cuties and welcome to the heart ache and pure joy of owning goats. They will build you up and rip you down but hey we all love it right?

Well they are in my laundry room now. I went down to turn the chickens out and they looked at me real pitiful and kinda shivered.
