Got My Ego Boosted Today

I know it's kind of silly, but I had a moment of feeling like a real pro today. Our little farm is listed with a regional local food and products organization, mostly because of the eggs, goat milk soaps, and lotions we sell. Our listing does include the fact that we raise Nigerian Dwarf goats, but we don't sell milk or dairy foods. A lady who lives three hours away saw the listing and called to ask if we had any does in milk for sale. We don't. She then told me that she was looking for some to provide milk for her family. She has never owned goats and had some questions, so I told her I'd help if I could. We went on to have a fairly long conversation about what to look for, what to expect, and how to feed/care for her goats when she finds some. We had a nice talk, and she went on to continue her search for goats. About an hour later, she called back with more questions. I shared what I knew (mostly learned here, by the way), and told her to call back if she needed more info. I also told her about my main source of information and help here at HT.

Like I said, I know it's kind of silly, but it made me feel good for a while that I could help out someone who is looking to share the addiction.

I know that feeling! All goat questions that come into the vet clinic get directed to me. It makes me feel so good when I know the answer right away
We don't get too many questions but it's always fun to talk with other goat people and be able to help...

I get these kinds of calls fairly often about ducks since I'm listed on Metzer's site as a person that raises duck eggs.
Love talking to people about the lifestyle! Whenever I post a Craigs add I always post that I'm willing to answer questions about animals milking/laying/care etc. weather I'm selling someone an animal or not-- in fact I often redirect people to a breed or species that is a better match for them. Maybe it costs me a sale, but I feel like my community gains a lot more by setting up a new backyard farmer for success than it does for just getting me paid.
