The puppies are here!

After a year of researching and trying to convince the DH, (along with all the yote, wolf, and fisher tracks out near the goat pen), he finally agreed we need LGD's.

We drove 4+hours to Bemidji, MN to meet a wonderful woman who drove from ND to meet us part way with 2 Italian Maremma pups. They are 4 months old, and were born in her barn with goats.

We have our work cut out for us, but I am so up to the task! We do have a few goats that are not used to dogs, so introducing them is going to be a slow process as the pups grow. Right now they are kenneled inside the goat pen (in the barn) when we are not out there to supervise.

Congrats! I'm not familiar with Maremmas personally but I've heard they are awesome guard dogs.

Great names BFF! How DO you tell them apart??

I'm leaning toward Odin for the male. (The woman we got them from is Norwegian) He's the King of Norse Gods, god of Poetry, battle, wit and logic. Kinda seems fitting.

Skadi (Skay-dee) is the Norse goddess of winter and the hunt, but that sounds too much like Scabbies...Meaning is cool though.

I love your names! You should use them...they are great! Those pups are gorgeous...those predators who have been contemplating eating dinner at your house had better think twice!

I like Freya, Lorelai. DH and I have been going around about names, he likes Sampson and Delila, I've already had 2 dogs over the years named Sam And I like Odin. I've been calling the female Marte after the woman I got them from. We need to figure this out so we don't confuse them!

We took them out for a time in the goat pen today. Very interesting, these dogs are unlike any pups we have ever had. I think I'll start keeping a diary of this new journey. It looks like the male will be the one to stay near the herd while the female scans the boundry for danger. They play with each other for short moments, then plop down to review the herd and their surroundings. At one point, the female scanned the goats (I could see her thinking-I swear she was counting them!), then she looked at me with an eyebrow raised. I said to her "you have alot to watch, don;t ya girl!"

LOL

With GREAT difficulty.

From a distance, I can't, but if I'm close enough, Spot has a longer muzzle.
Blackie's is more like her Dad's and she has his thicker coat:
