Runty has a uterine infection ...

Just got back from the vet's. She's not been 'right' since she kidded, and she was wobbly in the back. I figured she was really sore and/or had bruised nerves.

Per the vet, she's got a massive uterine infection and bruised pelvic nerves. She couldn't stand this morning. :-(

Vet was shocked she was still eating and I don't think he believed me until he saw the x-ray -- the x-ray to check for a second kid or a fracture showed a full rumen. (Runty was a 15 ounce baby with a ferocious will to live. She's still a fighter, I think. Too bad HER kid wasn't 15 ounces ... he was only three pounds, but she's a tiny goat.)

She's home now on dex, banamine, penicillin, and oxytocin. She already looks brighter (the dex, probably) and is chowing down on a flake of hay.

Cross your fingers for me ... I know she could go either way. I won't torture her if she doesn't recover enough to walk, and that uterine infection is bad news. But she is just an awesome little goat, and I don't want to lose her -- or see her in pain like this.

Darn it! I'm sorry that Runty is not doing good But I think that with the antibiotics she should be ok. Sending healing vibes and hugs for you ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>

She was on abx (LA200) and still got the infection.

My biggest concern is that she can't stand, however. I'm not sure how much of that is weakness from the infection and how much is from nerve damage. Only time will tell how much function she gets back. I know EXACTLY how bad nerve damage hurts and I won't put her through that kind of pain she doesn't look like she'll recover -- but right now, it's impossible to say which way she'll go.
