American vs. Purebred

Quick question! Say if I was to buy an American Nubian doe, and bred that doe to my Purebred Nubian buck, the kids would be registered as.....?? I've found that I really like the way some american does are put together all the way around, but kids are hard to sell around here when they aren't purebred. Opinions?? Thanks!

Purebred buck to an American doe.. always AMERICAN kids.. You can't breed UP to Purbred in Nubians.. As for selling them... I will admit that "they are ADGA PUREBRED, not ADGA AMERICAN??? is one of the first questions asked, when I have buyers contact me... I too have seen a lot of Americans that I really liked, but knowing I have a harder time selling them (and they sell for less) I just started with and have stayed with all purebred.

Yep. Now in other breeds it's not so much that way. Toggenburgs, alpines, lamanchas (and lamanchas can be bred up to Purebred), Americans are fine. Nubians, nope, major bias.

Actually, I believe it is only LaManchas and Sables that have open herdbooks where they can be bred up to purebred. The other herdbooks have closed purebred herdbooks.

For sure in Saanens the Americans are less expensive and usually higher quality than the Purebreds.

When I first got into goats people would call me and ask me if I had any "purebred" goats but later on I just realized that they meant registered, not really purebred. Some of them just meant that would they breed true to what they looked like.
