Exclamation Um help- Is she seriously going to kid in this blizzard?

Alright guys, I'm freaking out. Blizzard coming in tomorrow, I THINK ruby's ligaments have dropped. There is a LOT of tummy activity, she keeps looking over her back, and curling her lip. Bad pictures, but I"m freaked. Please say it ain't so.

She may drop just before, or hold them until just after. For the most part a doe waits till after the storm to kid, mothers way of keeping babies safer. But of course there's always the changes in barometric pressure that play a part, as well as the Does' Code! Good Luck!

She looks sunk in by her tail head. Not sure if that was normal for her as she looks thin from the pictures.

If she goes by the doe code of coarse she is going to kid in a blizzard. ; )
I go by the udder. If it all the sudden gets big and tight, there are gonna be babies soon.

Just have a dry clean draft free place for her to do so and she will be fine.

Cuss, cuss, cuss, cuss is what I say. I have my friend, her previous owner coming to take a look. The disturbing part about this is, she wasnt exposed until oct 7th.

Well...she's got until tomorrow late afternoon..the last I heard. Maybe she will have them tonight or wait until Friday afternoon.

Just make sure she has deep clean bedding, hay and water. And try not to be a nervous Nell when you are around her. If she is getting real close, and if she is like mine, she will start talking to her babies. Whenever that starts happening..I start sharpening up my watch on them. (I LOVE to hear them talk to their babies!)

I'm as close as a phone call. You'll both do fine. How far is it from the house to the barn/shed where your girl is?

I have saanen that is hard to tell on.
Instead of pushing down trying to find them, kinda push slightly down but slide you fingers back and forth, trying to feel the ligs "roll" under your finger. Not sure if that makes sense or not. LOL It's the only way I can tell on some of my saanens and mini saanens.

I don't know what I'm feeling. I did as you said and felt a bony ridge that I assume to be her tailbone? If she kids now, she'll be at least 18 days early. I am praying to whatever is out there, that I am reading this wrong. Or there was a mistake with the billy.

Dry corners of the basement, near the wood stove, are really good spots during a blizzard . . .

Then again, she may get so comfy and relaxed that she may not have her babies for another couple weeks

When Gretta was preggos I swear her ligs disappeared and then came back. Maybe I was doing it wrong but it drove me crazy. Plus I didn't have a due date. I had a due month and that didn't even turn out to be right.
I don't think this blizzard is going to be as bad as they are saying. We need the snow too much! If it does hit., it will hit here first and I will redirect it straight north so it misses you!

Thanks for sending it my way Min! We are to drive out to ND in 2 or 3 days to get a few pups. When is Q supposed to be here?

As for the ligs, I too had a doe last year, multiple freshener but first time with me, who lost her ligs a good 2 weeks before she kidded. Perhaps you are safe for tonight...Hopefully you are with those dates!

Sorry Ford Zoo...ok, I'll send it straight south!
They keep changing the time and the amount of snow..right now they have it hitting here around noon tomorrow and going until noon on Fri. It was supposed to start early Thurs and thru Thurs night. It has gone from 8-18" to 6"-12" to 5"-8". Here the amount doesn't mean as much as the wind. We can be snowbound from wind alone.

Alright. My friend came over. when she first checked, there were no ligaments. We stood and talked for 30 minutes, checked again and we FINALLY found them!!! They were very deep and squishy and wiser apart than normal, so that tells me it won't be tonight, but she's definitely getting ready soon. Right?

Min, I really, really hope so. My friend said she dropped about 36 hours before last year. She also said she's WAY bigger than she has been the passed two years when she had twins. she thinks she might have trips this year. You wouldnt believe the belly action we saw/felt tonight. Like firecrackers in her tum!

Actually, when my girls are ready I get scared because the acrobatics in the tummy stop. I figure it's them getting lined up and ready, but maybe that's another signal that she's not there yet?

Since does cycle every 18 days (or thereabouts, Rosie is 11), are they sure she wasn't exposed to the buck and they just thought she didn't take?

Yes, she's positive, he was in a completely different pen until Oct. 7th. So, unless he could fly, or aim... I'm settled down now. I have a feeling she might go early, but she could surprise me and hold on to them. Just, when I saw that much of a change in her, it really had me scared, and with the weather changes and all, I was seriously not prepared. Thanks ya'll for your advice.

How does her udder look? 18 days early is way too early so hopefully she holds on to them for a while longer. I have found that their ligs can come and go toward the end of pregnancy.
"Usually" the udder is my tell tail sign.

Well, she is a white goat. Maybe she's just "helping" you name them... Snowball, or Blizzard, or Stormy...

I go by the ligs and the steep rump combined. I have two does that "loose" and regain ligs for over two weeks. But I've learned its a back and forth. The ligs stretch until they're gone, hip angle changes until they're taut again, ligs stretch, hip angle changes a bit more. Last year I didn't have due dates so I was foolishly spending nights out in the barn a week before they went into labor. I know due dates now, and I'm watching the same thing happening. This time I'm paying more close attention to posty legs and flat hoo-haas.
