OT - hubby improving

Here's Hubby's Xray from Monday. He says now he has the potential to have a loose screw. I told him that happened before the first accident. :P

Ack! That makes my knees hurt in sympathy!

I don't understand what the screws are holding together. Are they just to keep that side thingy (technical term) on the bone?

Seems like a lot of screws to me and looks like it will be temperature sensitive. Do you have a huge roll of bubble wrap ready or a huge hampster ball for him? I don't see an xray of his wrist so it must not of been broken.

Alice, you are an angel! Why do I say that you ask? Cause you haven't beaten him within an inch of his life yet! LOL

The wrist had a 'possible' hairline crack, almost exactly like the leg bone, i.e. plateau fracture. :P The doc did X ray it, but said there wasn't much to do about it, as we had a wrist brace on it already, and hubby's not very active at this time.

He has now been allowed to put 50% weight on the repaired leg. Physical therapy lady comes to the house three times a week, and he's spending some time on the exercise bike, too, but with no resistance until after we see the doc again.

Hubby actually fixed his own breakfast yesterday and swept the living room floor (while using his walker.)

The screws are holding together the pieces of the top of that bone. It was in about five pieces, the one on the right side slightly larger, the others - not very big. The bottom screw holds the metal plate in place like a bracket. The plate, as seen from the side, wraps around the top of the bone. You can feel it through his skin, and there's no 'feeling' in that area.

There's going to be more discussion about safety and decision making. Just waiting for the right moment.

It's going to have to be virtual bubble wrap, held in place by angel wings, prayers, chants, lit candles, Earth Magic, and voodoo.

Boy, that looks painful although I'm sure it's probably not anymore! I sure hope when he back to his usual routine he uses a lot of caution & better judgement before he gives you a heart attack & worries all of us silly!
Sounds like he's doing really well & that's great, sounds like your holding up good too! I agree with Carla & you must be an Angel!

Tell Dan that I am going to send Doug down there to explain what it is like to live with a broken NECK if he doesn't start taking better care of himself.

I am glad he is healing up. Just so long as he doesn't plan any more bone-breaking adventures afterwards!

I'm pretty squemish but I must say that was one neat job that surgeon did.
I hope that he appreciates the doctor's work and treats it with the respect it deserves.
Is he abashed enough by his shotgun incident to be more cooperative about giving tme to heal right?

Creekmom, I'm at least earning some feathers.

As for cooperation with the doc and physical therapy, so far he is being compliant. I do have some concerns about his future decision making on safety issues, but that's been an issue for him for a while.

I can relate to that injury, I fell a few years back and fractured my left wrist by landing with my arm straight and hand flat to the sidewalk.
Doc put in a metal piece and 11 screws to hold all the pieces together. Physical therapy was a gold-plated . I can post my Xray if anyone wants more gross-outage.

Tell your husband to do what the nice torturer... er, therapist says, it will make the pain leave faster.
