Just sold our first meat goats!

Just sold our first meat goats directly to a buyer off the farm.

What an experience that was! Two guys drove up from The Cities 2 hours away to buy 2 goats, about 125# each, and arrived in........a.........HONDA CIVIC! They offered us extra to cull and skin them out here-today; we declined. The goats were loaded in the back seat and away they went. I so should have taken a picture...

But on a good note, we had a good conversation about what his family and neighbors likes, and I think we may have broken into a good market with him.

Congrats on the 1st sale & I bet that was a site to see!
We went to a bird swap a year ago down state & someone had a couple calfs there for sale & the person that bought them put hem in the back seat of a mid size ford(sorry all I remember it was a Ford) we were parked in front of them in our truck, it was a site I'll never forget.

Ha ha ha ha! The rigs some people haul animals in....

We sold a buck in full rut to a guy that was just starting his goat herd. He showed up in a mini, cargo-type van, "open floor plan". He was a little disturbed when he realized that the buck was...stinky. We laughed, told him it might take awhile to get the smell out...Oh well. Threw some hay in the back, buck jumped right in, and went on to make beautiful babies at his new home, lol!

I hauled a bunch of sheep to the sale in my 4Runner once. When I rolled down the back window and dropped the tailgate, all the old farmers' mouths dropped open. I was the talk of the town. *lol* Lots of old farmers saying things like, "I've seen a lot o' things in my day, but I NEVER!" *lol*

Hey, you make do with what you got!

Hey I once hauled a miniature horse in the back seat of a small car. You use what you have.

lol my truck broke down on me and I had to run a goat to the sale barn last Tuesday. Ended up throwing a full grown Saanen in the back of the wifes hummer! Shhhh...don't tell her though! The cowboys there had their jaws dropped at the site of a goat jumping out of a big red hummer! You know you're a redneck if...

One of our buyers owns a butcher shop. He recently came by for some geese. His truck had broken down, so he rented a van. He opened the back of the van to get out the large card board box he aimed to contain them in, and two loose calves popped their head out curiously. He also had a cage full of chickens and I don't know what else. I guess he was doing the rounds. (Wait until that gets returned!).

We rounded up the geese, offered to loan a carrier, but he declined sheepishly.

As he was happilly rounding the driveway on his way back to his butcher shop, I turned to my partner and asked,
..."so, how long do you think it's gonna take 5 angry geese to explode out the sides of a card board box??"

All three of my goats have been hauled in the back seat of my midsized car lol. Truck broke down a few weeks back and I've been too busy to get it fixed so when things come up a wire dog kennel gets thrown in and away we go. Yep got some great looks loading my new Oberhasli doe last weekend.

Congratulations on selling your first meat goats. We are making an attempt to get into them a bit. This year just started by breeding my diary does to a friends boer buck.
