I went to my neighbor who had a few dairy goats for some advice yesterday, and she offered me one of her goats for free, since she was too flighty for her taste, even though the Lamancha/Saanen doeling was born in her barn last spring. I am just happy to have a goat, and that she will do a job of clearing the bush and the weeds that my cows won't eat. Plus found a Boer/Nubian buckling that I can use to breed her to produce meaty/dairy babies to sell. She is not bred, but that is fine with me. My neighbor got her stock from a closed herd 4 years ago, and I have helped cared for them, and I have never seen/heard any health issues from the goats. And the buckling is from a closed herd too.
Well, here is my doe!!!
I let my friend name her. Its Tomesol Tomato! Its a type of white tomato.
I know, she is all white. Boring. But she is better than no goat at all! I will need to figger out what is her favorite food/treat so I can tame her somewhat. She will be staying at the neighbor's half a mile away, until Spring, then I will walk her home.
Tomesol's mother- Nugget
and herd mate Ethel. She is the most friendly one, and would come up to you for a head scratch.
The buckling that I put deposit on. I will be getting him when he is weaned. I have not seen him in person, yet.
I named him Laubach. Which is German for "Woods by the stream" We have a creek in the woods, so its fitting.
