Question about breeding

If I bred my ND buckling to a full-sized Nubian, would the offspring be mini-Nubians?

Smaller size of dairy goat opens up a bigger market to the urban/suburban/backyard crowd. Also, they tend to be more efficient feed converters. Due to the smaller size, they have a higher stocking rate than standards, with nearly as much milk production, but without the issues of the tiny, hard-to-milk teats that you often get in NDs.

It is a case of "This goat is too BIG! This goat is too small..... But this goat is juuuuusssstt right!"

Hmmmmm... Once we get our new and improved goat barn built, and a larger area fenced in, sounds like we need to look for a Nubian or other dairy breed doe to do some crossing. Maybe by that time Rocco will have gotten the hang of his role.

If you breed a Nigerian Dwarf Buck with any standard size dairy doe you'll get a 1st generation mini Nubian, Mini Alpine, etc.

The kids in mini breeding, at least with MDGA, are one generation higher than the lowest generation parent. If you breed back to one of the original breeds, it is a 1st generation. If you breed, for example, a 4th generation buck to a 1st generation doe, the kids of that breeding will be 2nd generation because of the doe being a lower generation number. So, the short answer to your question is yes.
