not good mother

FF kidded today. Boy, big! She shows no interest in him. I made her stand a few times so he could eat. She even tries to butt him away.

Tell me it will be okay till morning.

I had one do the same thing last week. And I thought it would be alright until morning since she was licking him, laying with him etc. And he was so weak the next morning he couldn't hold his head up. I took him away from the momma and he didn't make it through the night. I should have taken him away the day he was born.

It may be okay in ther morning, but you may also find him dead in the morning.

If she isn't willing to feed him, she might not be willing to keep him warm either.

If she is not feeding him or showing any interest otherwise in her baby I would not leave him in with her. Sounds like he needs to be in the house to stay warm.

If they are out in pasture bring them to a stall. Sometimes an FF is clueless.
So long as she isnt violent with him he'll probably be ok.

She may loose this one to "foster care". He survived the night (I had heat lamps outside of the pen shining through the panels).

Mommy isn't violent (not much) but the other ff who kidded yesterday is!

So....lousy mom and buckling are separate from them. I have allowed him to eat by feeding mom and assisting. I'm off today so that will work for today anyway.

My reluctance is that I don't want to milk anyone 2 times a day. I let babies with mom and milk once. I wasn't even going to start milking for a few weeks in order to let mom devote milk energy to kids.

Oy vey!!!!!!!!
