I am on the wait and see with this vaccine. My goats are not guinea pigs so if there are issues or kinks that turn up in the vaccine after people start actively using it I will weigh that that well as what they are doing to fix it.
I would be really upset if it caused my goats harm by using a brand new vaccine.
Yes I know someone somewhere has to start using it but it won't be me I am a chicken when it comes to my goats and I am not going to start injecting them with without lots of info/data.

I think many people in Texas and Arkansas started using it last year.

I am in Texas, and I am aware of the new vaccine. IDGRC at Prairie View vaccinated over 1,000 goats with it last year.

Next year, when the result are in from how it has done with local herds, AND the vaccine has met or exceeded expectations, I will start using it. I simply want to see how it does in the field in real world use.

I contacted one of the people who inoculated their herd with the vaccine, asking them if they had noticed any negative effects. Their answer was that it was not uncommon for an animal to get an abscess at the injection site. Otherwise they noticed no other problems. These are injection site abscesses, not CL abscesses.

BTW, in the Merk Vet Manual it says this "The practice of injecting abscesses with formalin should be discouraged as this practice is painful to the animal and may leave a residue of a carcinogenic compound in a food-producing animal."
