Clicker Training

Three days ago I started clicker training my goats..... started out just clicking as I passed out peanuts. Yesterday I introduced their first opportunity to earn the click (and therefore the peanut), offering up their sweet faces for "goat kisses." This is no small feat for the two I have who were not bottle raised. One tolerates some face scratching (the gentle, goat lovin' kind), and the other hides her face constantly. After the first setting (I train twice a day) all three of them were anxiously looking me in the eye at VERY close range!

This morning, as soon as I sat down with them, all three gathered around, without any fear or apprehension about me being close to their faces. The little shy one (Coco Bean) let me pet her face every time I was in the pen.

Goat kisses are sweet, but I can't begin to express how happy it makes me to see my two face-shy girls completely "over it!"

Does anyone else clicker train?

I don't clicker train, but what a great breakthrough you have made! I'd love to hear what else you teach them with it. Maybe shaking hands or doing yes/no with their heads? Sounds like fun!

Yes, and it's very well written-with illustrations. One day I'm going to have time to try it on my girls.

We clicker train everything. Started out when we did horse rescue and we got such great results. Most sheep respond really well but oh boy, goats are the best clicker pupils ever. A few of our goats and part of the sheep have remained unimpressed but most of them will do anything for a fragment of animal cracker.

Oh, thanks for the kind comments about The Backyard Goat! I'm glad you like it.

Storey used very little clicker training info in the upcoming sheep book, which is kind of disappointing.
