My goat is acting spooky and infected me
Ol' Tim is a steady eddy kind of goat. She's always takes the lead. She's quiet and easy going.
Tonight I went to feed and there she is- staring fixedly at the shed, then to the side of the shed with her ruff up from stem to stern, her neck stretched out. . When I put the hay in the feeder she went to eat, then suddenly shot off like she was hit electricity.
No one else- just her. I looked all around and could see nothing anywhere.
I keep opening the door to listen if there is any noise. Nothing.
But now she's go me jumpy too. I have to go out at 10 pm to do the last feeding in the dark with a flashlight as I have no power out there.
The idea is giving me the willies. Mountain lions live here along with bear............

She is spooked about something!!! Take a gun. We had a coyote in our garage eating our cats te chickens let us know there was a problem. Trust her. There is something wrong.

Check the shed for racoon or a fox, even a groundhog. If it is clear, I might even think about locking the herd up for the night if your shed is sturdy and secure.

Wish I knew if you were ok! This kind of crap scares me to death! I am glad our only predator around here is coyotes. The pack has gotten out of control! I saw them in the full moon the other night, running across the neighbor's bean field. About 40 I would say. Freaks me out.

It kind of makes you wonder if Ol' Tim has been watching scary movies or reading spooky books. Or maybe she realized you named her 'Tim'.
I found out mine are afraid of strangers. I did chores wearing a hoodie the other day, and they treated me like a punk in a parking garage at midnight.
My vote is rodent.

Hope you are okay. Mom wore a hoodie to milk milk one day and Cherry lost her ever loving mind. It was actually funny watching mom try to milk as Cherry did the Mexican Hat Dance lol.

Yes- thank you all- nothing ate me last night. When I went out at 10 pm, the whole little herd had their shorts in a knot. Jumpy as could be. I peered around with my maglite all over and saw nothing. I really do need to get something more secure except that I have seen bear rip doors off their hinges and chain link fences in half.
This morning (just got in from morning chores) everyone was their normal cheerful selves.
I'm thinking it was a bear as they are pretty noisy and likely to spook the goats although the horses seem to not be concerned about them. I have heard of bear taking goats though. I think that mountain lion are more sneaky and more of a suprise preditor and less likely to have them cranked up for hours. Who knows.
But it was kiind of people to be concerned. I'm normally not flustered by living in the woods but Tim's reaction wase contagious.

Glad all is OK. Maybe it was a bear, they smell and the animals always smell them before I do. Is Tim your herd queen? Those matriarchs seem to pay more attention to the surroundings than the rest. Good you noticed her acting different.

Tim (Alder Grove Timber) used to be the queen. Her status is a bit iffy at the moment as she's getting older and the others are testing more.
I can honestly say I have only once seen Tim bolt and that was when a dog got into the pasture. She has nerves of steel for a goat.

Yikes, glad to hear you are all ok.
One day in the barn my Nub with newborns looked up & started snorting. It was a rat traveling along the wires.
