Milk Stand...your opinion please

http://www.shop.ozarkgenetics-caprin...nd-1009001.htm

This is the goat milk stand I am thinking about getting when I get my taxes back.

My current goats are disbudded. I have read that some milk stands won't work for horned goats. I am not planning on disbudding any kids I have, so will this work?

Also, what is a fitting stand for? There is an attachment for the milk Stand http://www.shop.ozarkgenetics-caprin...DECK-10997.htm

Thanks

Overpriced. I have built seven. You can do it!

Fitting is what you do when preparing your goat for the show ring.

I am not good at building things. I like that this isn't wood so should last longer.

Anyone near Emily want to make me one that I can pick up when I get some new kids this year? LOL

Our stand is maybe 6 yrs old. It is wood. The head lock has been replaced once. Bolts have had to be tightened.
It has roofing material on the base.
My horned goats know how to get their head in there. And out.

Made mine outta good but scrap lumber 5 years ago. Cost was the price of some bolts and paint. Needs another coat of paint but no other repairs. And it sat outside the first year till I got a good sized barn built. You can do it.

I don't have the tools to do it and when I read directions on how to make them, I just get so confused.

Maybe I should have my son help me. At least he has had shop class. I can spend the money on tools instead of a fancy stand and will have the tools for the next project I think of.

That the picture to your local high school ag teacher. Ask if the students can build one.

My husband built mine out of all new material and it still cost less than $100. Maybe you could pay someone to build one for you.

I don't think that thing would be heavy enough to 'stand' up to the job. haha Looks rickety, the solidity and weight of wood would be much more stable.

Check Hoeggersupply.com before buying from the link you provided. Very reputable company & they make quality things. I haven't bought any stands from them but have a friend that has a couple & they seem really nice.

They have different metal stands for horned or disbudded goats & also a nice looking wood stand for $154.00. They also sell the plans for the wood stand so you can make it yourself or have someone else do it for you.
The school is a great idea, take them the plans & see what they can do.

I would be willing to bet that you and your son could build a nice one using wood.
You could buy a few tools, the materials needed, not spend as much money, have the tools when you were through, and have a nice time with your son!

PossomRidgeFarm (one of our west TN posters that I had not noticed before today, Hey Guys) has a nice write up about one also.

Here is the link,
http://www.possumridgefarms.com/page16.html

You can easily make the 2 pieces of material (2x4) pivotable so the opening will accommodate a horned goat if needed.
