Heat/Season... they never do this

We have a big five year old Boer doe that kidded on Jan. 13 and, as usual (unless our buck gets ornery), we leave the whole gang together year round. This year however the doe acts like she's in heat and the buck is following her around barking, snorting and mounting her like she has a bag of sweet feed stashed in her pocket!

This is the only doe we've had (in 11 years) that has shown signs of being in heat after kidding so I gotta ask... is this likely or has my buck lost his mind?

We also have a daughter and grand-daughter out of this same doe that kidded on the 12th and 14th of Jan. but the buck isn't really acting interested in them at all.

Maybe this is his favorite doe & after giving birth the smell the doe has is similar to being in heat. In my experience my does' never come into heat while nursing kids this young. I'm guessing it's the discharge she's giving off that's making him really go crazy for her right now.

They are probably not fertile heats, but *could* be. Watch your management closely with her if she is bred. She'll need rather intense feeding for 2 lactations so back to back.

Some does can kid three times in two years. Mostly in meat production herds is this seen. I had a spanish doe do it all the time. Keep her fed and she should be fine.
