My does are pampered drama queens...

They used to hardly set foot out of the barn until this last year or so. Hannah has decided she likes standing by the door in the sun on the East side of the barn.

They have all the alfalfa hay they want, clean fresh water, and all the salt and baking soda they want. Deep beds of straw in the winter and fans in the summer. Heaven forbid a fly land on them in the summer. (That's what the fly spray is for.) That's the pampered part.

The drama queen part is when Hazel is put back in the pen after her evening grain ration on the stand and yells that she needs more. It is also when they see me coming anywhere near them with a syringe of any sort why they try to get away from me. I mean, I could be offering them pure honey out of that syringe and they act like it's poison. This is the reaction I get to the replamin as well. Sigh... Oh well, they are just going to have to get over it. Maybe it will get better with time? Don't know what else to do...

Am I the only one with pampered drama queens? (P.S. they are nubians )

dramatic yes... always loud... not really LOL (I have does out there who are 6, 7 years old who I've yet to hear them make a sound..,maybe they just never have had anything that felt like talking about?).. but I do have a couple lines that I call my mouths from the south girls..they and their daughters yell about everything!!! but's it's only 2 families of loud mouths.. most times you would never even guess we have goats!

I hardly evere here Hannah say anything at all. Her daughter Hazel though.... Letms just say she likes to express her emotions. She is not the loudest I have had but she isn't the quietest.

Nope. Mine are just drama queens in a different way.

"But, I MUST try to get back into the milking stall and on to the milkstand! I know that once I get there, I will eat ONE PELLET out of the feeder, because I am already stuffed to the EARS with pellets, and then I will try to nose around everything, and I have already been milked...but I MUST get back in there! BAA-AA-AA-AAAA!"

"I know that last week I sucked down my Replamin as if it was pure, sparkling water, and I was dying of thirst in a desert...but this week, it is POISON! Pure POISON, and oh! WHY do you want to MURDER me!?!"

"It is true that yesterday I tried to stand on the feeder on the milkstand to reach the tube of Probios Paste, but since you actually want to GIVE it to me today, I shall fight you tooth and hoof!"

"TREEEAAAATTTSS! I shall PERISH without TREAAAATS! Oh woe is me, for I am DYYYYYYING and my cruel and savage owner cares not for my suffering, for she has not brought me treeeeaaattts! Oh, wait, are those treats? You have brought me treats? ~sniff, sniff~ Oh ugh! Not THOSE treats! I want the OTHER treats! You are evil!"

That is sooo true! Those poor goats. I guess we just don't understand their plight.

Hmmm is it just me or is there a similarity between our goats and extremely spoiled children?

You forgot..."Rain??? What is this...STUFF...you have made come from the sky and lay in puddles on the ground? I will NOT go out there. Yes, I DO frolic in my own poo and pee, but that is DIFFERENT."

I noticed the difference between my petted buckling and the two unhandled bucklings I got as freezer boys from the big herd up the road, when it came to banding time.
As a novice with elastrator in hand i was a little nervous, knowing the awesome responsibility that comes with such power (OT: anyone else noticed every human man within 20yards suddenly shrink and cross their legs when you get that thing ready? Hmmm, not unless you cheat darling!)

I banded the two freezer boys in about 10 minutes flat, they were on their feet and eating again in total silence within seconds of the banding. Skipped about playing.

Then it was poor Sausage's turn. I was convinced I had banded around a testicle or got both nipples in the ring! He dragged his hind legs about, bleating piteously and then his back legs collapsed several times. The offer of grain made him nauseous and my hands coming to pet him were the hands of death! I caught him twice more, flipped him over to check everything was in order. All fine and correct. He limped for 2 days, and cried whenever he lay down. I couldnt help but notice that when I arrived with the feed bowls that afternoon he forgot his deep emotional scar and was first through the gate.

Now I'm not saying a boy doesnt deserve some sympathy after having that done to him, but my 'baby boy' had a much lower pain threshold than the tough little urchins from a large herd!

Every morning when I walk back to the house from the barn Tinker walks right next to me along with the dogs. I get to the door, dogs go in, Tinker acts like it her turn so I tell her no sweetie you stay outside and she looks at me like ''what?! but I always go inside!'' ~~she is lying. Then I go in shut the door and the crying begins. Not for long thank God and then I see her running back to the barn.

Read that off to DH and we just laughed and laughed If Webster's had an entry for Nubian doe, it would read "Spoiled, pampered drama queen"

Told my doe the joke and she looked down her nose at me and told me "We are not amused. We are a Princess". She is, you know. Her collar has a gold plate on it that says "Princess Poppy".... I think I'm in trouble....
