Exclamation Mid delivery question

I've read it, and now I can't find the info I need. I know it's been repeated many times, but I need advice:

Very large bellied doe, selller said she always delivers trips. Little goo this AM, but no contractions at that time so I left her for 1/2 hour and returned to find a large, recently born (body still warm) Doeling-still born Mama was cleaning her and face was cleared of bag. (vigorous rubbing, ect, did not work)

No further contractions, lots of movement on right side, I tried bouncing and it feels full and firm, but I've never had the opportunity to bounce when there are kids left. I went in just past my wrist to check her, just felt alot of stringy tissue and felt like I might rip some of that if I went in further. She did push against my hand a few times while I was in there. She has not yet passed a placenta, just has a long string hanging out about 12 inches.

I just gave her CKMP, she is just standing there eating hay. She had a fit at first when I took the doeling away but seems content now.

It's been nearly 2 hours since she dropped the doeling and still no contractions. I do have a dose of oxy, but I'm worried if there are remaining kids and they are not yet in the right postion, I may cause more problems. But this seems to be too long...

Thanks for any Thoughts you can share.

How large was the doeling? I would hazard a guess that if it was a very large one, maybe she's the only one? Usually triplets are a hair smaller (but not always!) Is she eating & drinking heartily?

Sometimes instead of bouncing, I just gently push up and spread my fingers out and feel for baby parts (bony legs, etc.) It's harder to do if there's only one little one left in the canal, you can't really feel too much.

How many times has she kidded before you got her?

I'm not sure how many times she has kidded before. It's been at least twice from the seller's statements. She did just pass the placenta, so I'm guessing she's through and I'm left with a still fat goat... While I didn't weigh the doeling, I'd say she was around 6 pounds, but this is a decent sized doe bred to a boer.

Sounds like the only kid. Probably aspirated on the birth fluids or didn't get the bag off quick enough.

Sometimes it can be hours before the placenta is pushed out. Sometimes minutes.

I'm just bummed , especially since it was a doeling, and we were rather excited about this does kids. Since I found her the way that I did, I'm not sure that with me being there it would have even made a difference. I'm kicking my self for leaving her, but she had the tiniest bit of clear mucous, no noticable contractions, and I left for 30 minutes.

6 lbs is really small, well, depending on the breed. What breed? Sometimes they have a placenta per kid, but I've never seen one pass placenta then another kid...think it can happen though. Maybe you should try going back in now that the placenta is out of the way, in case it was cover another/other kid/s.

Ford Zoo

I feel your pain. When I left for work last night, all was well with no sign of impending doom. When I returned this morning, I had 3 frozen babies Last night, the temp was 5F with a steady wind. First Freshener Doe we'd been waiting on to have babies for a while (we really expected her to deliver before Christmas). Kinda expected more warning!

I am so sorry Ford Zoo & Copperhead too! Such a bummer to find dead babies & I'm sure this cold spell is not helping any either.

Copperhead-three? That is such a loss....Mother nature is not kind sometimes. We have been fortunate that all four of ours have delivered between 8:30am and 10am this month.
