New rule for the "Does Code"
Thou shalt not kid when it is 20 below zero! STOP PUSHING!!!
Nuff said, you can guess where I'll be all day...I'll give an update after she's done and everyone is dry and warm with full bellies....If I have any feeling left in my fingers....

Oh dear See now here is a situation where I would use a safe (Premier1) heat lamp. It's too cold to be dealing with all the wet that comes with birth. Throw towels in the dryer to warm them up. Use those little hand warmers if you have them. Drink hot liquids. (herbal tea and vodka works for me )
Good luck, stay warm as possible and keep us posted!

I had to come in and get warmed up, she's not doing much now, I think getting put in the kidding pen shook her up a bit, but she has another mama and doeling next to her, and on the other side is the main pen so she can still see most everyone.
Michele, putting the towels in the dryer is a great idea, Thanks! I've got a styrofoam box, that should keep them toasty for a while. I've got heat lamps in the pens, but I think I'll pull out the old barn heater and see if I can't rig it up to get some more heat down there.

It's a girl!! The birthing fluids were freezing into icicles as she was delivering. Kept her under the heat lamp and worked on drying her with the blow dryer while she bonded with mama. Once she got up and got that first bit of colustrum (she nursed for a long time, milk is letting out easy), I brought her in the house. Gonaa finish drying, give her a bit of replacer to fill her tummy good, then take her back out to mama. Pics to come later.

So glad everything went well. Sounds like that little one may need a baby coat along with all the other heat lamps, etc. with this cold snap were having.
Hot water bottles under old towels are great too!
Definitely too darn cold for kidding!

This little girl needs a good arctic name, any ideas? This is another pygmyXkiko (ouch), 3 FF's down (2 doelings, 1 buckling), and one more pygmy to go. All three are primarily black with the pygmy markings. There are a total of 3 more does ready to go anytime, hoping this weather breaks but it is still supposed to be below zero for a few more days.
Mama's teats are a bit posterior, so she lifts up her leg so the little one can find it. I am just amazed at all the miracles of mother nature!
Stay warm everyone!

Will our animals ever appreciate all we do for them?
I was at a farm auction recently & they had heated stall mats. Think they were about 4x4. Googled them looks like they run about $100 could be a good thing to have on hand if you power in your pen.
We have a weather named Blizzard, he is the only goat we have whose name has a reason-- unless you count Buck.
Enjoy your new doe!
