Question What hoof trimmers are the best quality

Ours are falling apart! Dh trimmed hooves yesterday and got seriously annoyed by the spring popping out etc. lol. We'd like some that are well made and that work nicely. Thanks!!

I use a pair of the green handled trimmers sold by ValleyVet. I doubt they are the best quality, but they have lasted me more than a season, and are very inexpensive.

Concrete Nippers

Seriously, after watching a hoof professional do a barefoot trim for our pony (who had extremely hard "nails" btw), I bought a pair of concrete nippers (used to cut or nip steel nails poking out of freshly cured concrete) from Lowes for about $15.

I trim all hooves twice a year, some goats get a 3rd or 4th trim in that time. I have two Boer girls that grow an inch of hoof per month. They also have an outer (hard) nail that can be half an inch thick. The nippers take a good bite and cut hard and soft material cleanly. They are 10" long. A 3rd hand would be nice (two hands on the nippers, one holding the goat hoof), but that's another story.

I just got a serrated pair, maybe from premier1? They are awesome. They cut thru any hoof like butter. Trying to remember, think green handled. They cost a bit more, but I love them.

I don't really care for any of them. I think a really good sharp knife with a sheep foot blade works better than nearly any hoof trimmer thingie.

The only time I use them is if the horn part is so overgrown that it is too thick to cut with a knife. If I'm regularly trimming i'd much rather use a knife because I can start at the heel and cut all the way to the toe in one stroke and then the bottom of the hoof is flat.

That is the one, but I had $9 in my mind, not $19. I just used mine last weekend. They still cut like new / effortlessly.

I can now appreciate the times my mom threw a fit when I took my her nice scissors and used them to cut up a cardboard box. And what kid wouldn't want to play with those zig-zaggy scissors.

If I catch my kids snipping a branch with these, I'll apply a backhand that would make their grandma proud.

Oh, the forbidden pinking shears! The leather shears were not to be touched, either.
