Past due??

I bought 2 pregnant Nubian's about a month ago.

Was told one would kid on the 9th, she did.
Was told the other would kid on the 15th, she has not.

At this point, I am so ticked off with the seller I don't want to call her and confirm the date.

The doe has formed a bit of a bag. Is acting as she has the entire time I have owned her. My guess is the date is off.

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

Thank you.

Sometimes just because they were bred on a certain day doesn't mean they actually settled on that day. Sometimes it can take a few days.
I wouldn't get too upset yet. If she's acting OK, eating, drinking & no signs of distress she could still be getting close. Some don't really bag up fully until delivery or even after sometimes.
Did the previous owner run the buck with the does' all the time or hand breed them so she has an approximate date? Most kid between 145 to 155 days.

I do not believe the buck ran with them all the time.

Was really surprised that the one kidded right on the money, yet nothing from the second.

Don't be surprised. Even those of us who have exact breeding dates have surprises happen.

You've got about a ten day range to be patient through, at least. Unless she settled on the NEXT cycle, and she's going to be three weeks later than expected.

Breeding goats is NOT an exact science. Don't be angry. Goat's don't always "take" any more than humans do.

Alice, I am not angry with the breeder for the kidding situation.

There are other things related to these two does, that have me ticked off.
But not the kidding date.

Thank you for the 10 day vs. 3 week information.

Being some what new to goats, guidelines like that are helpful to me.

Welcome to the wacky world of goats, Lauri. There is an incredible amount of information to accumulate and assimilate.

Oh, and just to let you know how wacky.... two years ago, I made the error of housing the bucks in a pen next to the does with only one field fence between them. Wound up with THREE pregnant does that I had NOT put in with the bucks. Breeding through the fence DOES happen, but we joke about it being the year of flying sperm.

Now, there are TWO fences between the bucks and does.
CaliannG and Ressa like this.
