First kid of the season!

So, in trying to build our meat herd, we ended up taking some pygmies mixed in with a group of goats we bought in October. These little girls were bred to either a kiko or a boer, the gal wasn't sure. I darn near luted them thinking this would not be good, but we decided to let nature take its course. She wasn't sure on the due date either, so the waiting and watching has been a daily thing.

This morning at 9am the first one had the thread. My DS named her Scrappy, since her right horn was broken when she was a kid and now grows off to an angle. I was able to get her in the kidding pen and watch her progress. She maybe goes 40 or 50 pounds and I'm positive this is her FF. Things went smoothly until the huge hooves showed. Then, no progress. I helped her and pulled out a 5.5 pound buckling! Definately the spunkiest kid I've ever seen. He has longer ears, but I'm thinking his daddy is the Kiko.

Scrappy is a wild little girl that we cannot handle unless we get her in the chute. But once she got to the point of needing help today, she was accepting. I am amazed at how trusting she was thru this whole thing today.

But then, these creatures never do cease to amaze me!!

Cute! Not quite airplane ears. Sort of broken balsa wood toy plane ears. LOL

Still cute.

And I forgot to mention-I only had the confidence to 'pull' after reading all the other posts about it! Was afraid of hurting the little guy, they are not quite as delicate as I would have thought!

What a cutie, congrats! All these posts with new baby pics are making me even more sad that my Skittles didn't take. She would have been due around now, but instead I have to wait for March babies from my other girls. I may go crazy from the waiting!

Thanks everyone! It's bitter out there tonight-gonna drop down to 2 degrees, but he's eating great, has a thick coat, and has a heat lamp and doggy coat on.
