a few farm pics

Jess took a little time off from chores to take pictures (we still need to update the website... so I keep telling her ... mama NEEDS pictures.. she keeps taking them..ME?? I keep never getting around to updating LOL)... to keep her photo taking from being in vain.. thought I'd share a few

I think the group head study is pretty (the does were waiting to get out to the hay)..noticed one of those DOES is actually a Sheep LOL.. (Mildred is almost 15, but still going strong)... I did not breed Edith this year (after losing Jenna last year, right before kidding.. I just needed to NOT risk losing another favorite older gal.. Also Edith had wonderful triplets last year..I kept all 3.. so I think retirement is well deserved..Edith HOWEVER disagrees .. she is standing at the buck pen today.. screaming her head off .....not all pictures are goats.. I love the one of the rooster crowing on the pole (we free range all the chickens.. didn't even KNOW we had this rooster LOL, but he's not a bad looking guy.. thought Camie's headshot was pretty.. she is one of the sheltlands.. poor old Mildred, lost her ear tag somehow, now she has one floppy ear..Uncle Harold is getting rather long in the tusks.. the yearling pen is growing off nicely...

there.. now I don't have mother-guilt over sending my child out in the mud, for no real reason LOL

Oh! My! Gosh! These pics are AWESOME! I can't stop looking at them! Thanks for the stories about them too..... wow.... The profile pic of the does is gorgeous..... but the full face shot of them, wow! I can't say which one of those two I like better! And the hog, what a big guy! How much does he weigh?

That rooster pic is classic! And I love the one of your sheep, standing there looking right at us..... but then the profile pic of your sheep is awesome too!

Your goats are beautiful! Love the colors! The pic of them standing all together to eat makes me smile just to look at it!

These are great pictures!

Your pictures are fantastic! You should make them into a calendar. Love the full face shot and the rooster. That last one of the pig with the rooster is too funny!

Absolutely stunning photos! I agree about a calendar! Can I ask what camera you have?

Those are some really Great pictures!! Jess's new camera must be awesome. She should enter some of those photos in your county fair this year & I bet she'd get some ribbons & a little prize money too.
I love them all so hard to pick a favorite but if I had standard size nubians I'd definately want some of yours Susie.

Is Harold a regular Pot Bellied Pig? My daughter is wanting to add a pig to our menagerie of animals, but I don't want to contend with a 600 lb hog free ranging in my yard. What ever we get will be a pet. I don't want a Mini that has to be kept inside either. Any suggestions?

Love the photos! A wonderful tribute to the beauty of farm life. My personal favorite is Mildred (?) from the back eating with all the goat girls. What a hoot!

The pictures are fabulous. Having a good camera means nothing if you don't know how to use it and you obviously you do so great pics. Just thought I would compliment the photographer as well as the camera

Uncle Harold (named after my husband's uncle, who was a football coach.. Harold was the size of and felt like a football when I got him LOL)>.. he is just a reg. run of the mill potbellied pig man.. He is almost 10years old... He has NEVER been wormed, never eaten anything but goat feed... he has free run (waddle) of the entire farm..

He came to me wilder then wild (took me almost a year, before I could even touch him!)... then when he was about a year & 1/2.. he tripped and ruptured a disc .. he was down and out.. we bonded during that time (it was weeks of dex & banamine.. back rubs, me rolling him side to side to keep him from having bedsores.. wiping his butt.. moving/rubbing his legs. Slowly he recovered.. he walked with a *hitch in his get-along for a long time, but he shows hardly any left over damage anymore*.. he is super smart. (BUT with that goes a orney temper.. He understands the word NO.. I told him NO one day, to stay out of the backyard.. so he ripped the chainlink gate off it's hinges!!... Another time I had the nerve to yell No at him about something (not sure what it even was) ... but that resulted in him removing the wooden steps from the deck..just ripped them off! .. One night (before our current kidding barn) I went out for night checks.. he wanted to go into the barn with me.. I told him no.. go to bed (he has a small shed he shares with the sheep)..he tried again to follow me.. I told him no again.. he turned around grumbling under his breath.. I went in and spent time with the girls.. On my way out I tripped and fell flat on my face over a big rock (a rock that HAD NOT been in front of the barn door when I went in).. I found the hole he had dug it out of .. about 10 feet away.. DID you actually PLAN out my fall??? who knows .. but he is smart

He is also sweet and funny.. he loves belly rubs.. flops over and groans and moans as I rub him.. He loves mommy-scritches behind his ears.. I in turn love the way he says YUM YUM YUM the entire time he is eating a special sweetie I slip out to give him at night. He does have a bad habit of wandering around at night (and since he is knee high & black.. we have all fallen over him.. he enjoys getting right up on you and sucking on your shoes.. he's odd, but I will certainly miss him when he is gone ---not enough to replace him!!!!--- but I am glad I have shared my life with a pet pig..

Jess called this picture " Don't stand, don't stand, don't stand so close to me" it's shows him trying to suck her mud boots..

WOW $600 pig??? you could get 2 or 3 nubian kids for that LOL... I paid $ 10 for Harold as a baby (and that included them cutting him.. I know it's not called wether in a pig, but I am PIG CLUELESS LOL.. I just happen to have Harold)

The does are actually just now beginning to show (still far enough out, we are pulling blood this next week and have pregnancy tests run).. everyone is just in good weight this winter.. My hay supply this year, turned out to be pretty nice and everyone is looking good.

Yes, his head shot really does make him look like a full sized hog. That second picture of him with the rooster has great composition. Your daughter certainly has a photographer's eye!

Your animals are beautiful, and your stories are heart warming!

Please tell us about the sheep!

I guess my favorite picture is the full on face shots of your goats. What a wonderful way to start your day!

Great Photos! Agrees with Hazel2006, compliments to the photographer.
