overzealous milk doe maybe nursing our steer?

last night i went to get birdie for her evening milking, and she was standing with front legs up on the grain trough, standing over our steer who was lying down. this steer is 4 months old and occasionally tries to suck on our clothes and search of an udder. it didn't look like he was trying anything at that moment, but is it possible he is nursing off of her? i have also noticed she is not as full in the evenings as she once was. whats up with this? no signs of mastitis or anything. still giving a 1 1/2 qts in the morning but now less than a qt in the evening.

He very well could be. When it happened to me I notice her udder wasn't as smooth as it was afew days before. I figured she got into something and she got a slight rash. Cleaned her all up and came back in to start some dishes. That's when I saw her nursing the calf.

Oh, I hope not. I know how rough our bottle calves are with their bottles...sure wouldn't want one bashing a goat like that!

we aren't 100% sure its happening, but it was quite the compromising position to find them in. looked pretty suspicious. and if that was in fact happening, she was obviously all for it. so i guess i will have to keep a closer eye on those two. if he wants goat milk i will give it to him, as long as he doesn't violate my doe lol. it was so comical. you should have seen the look on their faces when i shined the flashlight in.

Though I agree it's not good for the doe we do need a pic of this, catching the look on thier faces would be priceless.

I will try to be sneaky tonight when going out. Another thought is this, was she trying to pressure him into it? With the loss of her kids, maybe she wants him to be hers? Or maybe I was late (in her eyes) for milking and she wanted relief? I mean, it did look like she was purposefully dangling the udder in his face. I know its not good with the butting thing, but I haven't seen him butt anything since we've had him, not even us when he is sucking on our clothes. If I do catch them in the act, I will put a stop to it. But I guess I gotta catch them first.

I think you'd notice the teeth marks on her teats. Our calves tend to really do a number on the cow's teats.

We have a doe that lets ANYONE suckle. Even the dogs nurse on her. I believe she'd allow a dinosaur to nurse if she could find one. It's possible.

That's hilarious! So want to see a photo!
She's so generous. I cant imagine a doe being so free with her milk (mine is a real scrooge), but I suppose if she lost her babies she wants to mother something, although it seems a slightly inappropriate choice.

I used to have an old staffordshire bull terrier bitch called Mambo, who I got speyed after she spent years having puppies (before I owned her). She had these dried up saggy old teats left hanging after so much nursing. When my flatmates got a big alsatian puppy, he used to lie down on his back and suckle these dry old teats while Mambo sat there looking blissed out. It was not something you really wanted company to see!

They were on their best behavior last night. They probably sensed the camera at the ready.
