CIDR fail (apparently)

Had CIDR induced heats on 12/17 and 12/18 from two 2012 March kids, bred them though they were in heat (flagging, mucous, interested in bucks) they didn't like to stand, and seemed terrified of the big boys so I held them.

They're both in heat again today, natural heats... and they're acting much more receptive. Not running away. Yay! Puts kids born in June... but at least I'll have kids out of 'em.

Gave lute/PG600 to my doe Bungie who CIDRs didn't work in, Friday night around 10:45-11pm. We're at 37 hrs post lute/PG600. No signs of heat yet...? Normal?

Maybe your doelings weren't quite to the standing stage of heat, or they were past it.

Hope they took this time for you. June babies won't be too bad unless summer starts out really hot this year.

Last breeding season was my first year using CIDR's - (I used them on 8 does and they all took) - due to infertility in our herd (which I now know was caused by Vit. A deficiency - which caused one to abort). I gave the PG600 12 hours before pulling the inserts (did not use lute) and the does were in standing heat anywhere from 12-48 hours after - most right at 24 hours. Leaving the inserts in for 21 days seemed to be the key - I also dipped them in chlorhexidine when inserted - read it worked better on cows that way.

Lessee, when I did the AI'ing and first batch of CIDRS, I know I gave PG600 before I pulled the CIDRs. Can't remember how many hours now, it was back in Oct - I think it was 36hrs before. AI'd 4 does, (one being Bungie), and live cover bred 6 does. Did not see signs of standing heat from ANYBODY, but then again I wasn't home till after 24 hrs after I pulled them. All but Bungie took via biotracking results 35 days post-breeding.

With the doelings and Bungie the 2nd time around, I gave PG600 and pulled CIDRs at the same time. I monitored VERY closely and was able to see the doelings (but not Bungie!) come into heat. They were letting wethers mount, flagging, SCREAMING, dishcharge/poofy vulvas... except they were TERRIFIED of the bucks, lol. So I know when they went in to heat and know they were bred. The alpine doeling was in heat 3 days later as well... Or was still... Funky hormone things I assumed. Anywho, bred her again on that day as well. She then went out of heat, and I figured that was that.

Now it's 20 days since both were in heat (and 16 days after the alpine was last bred) and here we are again. Much stronger normal heats IMO. The alpine doeling was even humming to her beau, lol.

Will update on Bungie. Haven't heard of any heats out of her yet...

LUTE fail?

What the heck is up with this doe.

I gave 2.5ml Lute around 11pm on Friday. I was home till Sunday afternoon around 1pm, checked her that afternoon, zero signs of heat, boys are gross attitude. I can spot heats a mile away, too. As I said, doelings were in heat so I threw them in with the bucks. Dad didn't check her that night, but she's usually obvious in the stand - wagging her tail constantly. She wasn't doing that he said.

STILL NO HEAT (or obvious signs of) Mon AM. Dad said she was wagging her tail this morning at milking, so he walked her over to the boy pen. She did her typical, "why are we here? Why are those boys so gross? I guess I'll eat this hay".

He's going to throw her in with Calix (alpine) buck per my request... we'll see. Hopefully he can figure her out. I sure can't.

~grinz~ You have to have at least ONE every season that makes you tug at your hair, don't you? Else they wouldn't be goats.
