We did it!!

Today DH and I trimmed our goats hooves! First time ever watched all the videos but it is still different when doing it for real. Still want to get someone here to show me but despite not getting them down perfect I got lots of overgrowth off. Did all 5 in just about and hour. Woot woot us !!!!!

Congrats. I've been trimming ours for about a year now and still get nervous about cutting too deep.

Well done! First trim on my little babies I over-cut on Sausage's front hoof and it bled, panic stations but all turned out ok. Still makes me nervous and they are all due for another trim this week. Gak.

They were so bad. I know I can cut the round white part on the back but that felt like flesh not hoof to me. I didn't make anyone bleed so I was very happy ;-)

I hope I am not stepping on anyone's toes (pun?), but all of the videos that I have seen regarding hoof trimming have to do with the toes getting too pointy. We have a girl who has super growth on her heel...not her toes. How do you trim that? Has anyone seen a hoof trimming video that addresses that issue? Thanks!

You can trim the hoof there and even the soft heel tissue just using extra care all I do is try to keep it even without cutting to much.

Gratz on your success mahnah my first time I didn't have a stand and my 100+ pound saanen didn't want her hooves done...it was not fun to say the least.
Am devestated cause I just recently put Pawnee on the stand I built last year (to trim her hooves) only to discover she o u t g r e w it!!! dangit pony you gave me a monster goat ;P

Can't wait til I build my stand we lied them down hubby held them down and I trimmed with calming words strokes and kissing their noses. No one really fought too much and only yelled twice.

I am looking forward to getting better.

My husband built a WELDED METAL stand for me to trim hooves on after my yearling buck trashed my regular milk stand. The buck ripped the headgate completely off of the wooden stand.

Congratulations! It is so much easier on the milkstand than when dh used to hold them & I trimmed them. Easier on my back too! I need to trim a little off some of mine now since I don't like them to get too much growth.

It's funny how nervous you are the first time and when you get done you have to laugh at yourself because it really wasn't that bad.

My girls are all so fat I felt bad because they'd grunt really loud jumping on the milkstand. Baby bellies are heavy ya know. I trimmed them on the ground and they all either tried to sit down or would go down on their front knees. I ended up sitting on the ground. What a pain! DH is building me a ramp for the milkstand. I really need to do the boys but they still reek and are just nasty.
