Talking Ye-haw! Fences done!!

It was a long day, but today we got a brand new waterfowl run put up, and got all our does and the 2 babies moved into new quarters with a nice chain link outdoor pen and a walkway into the barn to get out of the sun, the weather, and some privacy for kidding if a doe wishes.

The buck and wethers have officially been left behind in the pen that was intended for them!

Pictures tomorrow (we lost the light), I am just so happy to see so much work done this week to improve the smooth infrastructure of our little farm.

This is huge for us because for SO LONG I had my husband's help for maybe one weekend day a month to do a project, but thanks to new job's schedule we knocked out TWO days to do a good job and oh it looks SO clean, and planned out and "country professional" instead of half-baked.
This place was so rough when we moved in, it's huge to see our long term plans move forward.

AND the animals love their new homes.

Here is the outdoor half of the girl's habitat:

And here is the indoor half:

You can't see in the piccy, but we put up wire panels over the wood frame of the barn indoors and out that is exposed to the goaties to keep the girls and kids from eating the walls...

In the round pen the whole herd was in, we had a terrible time getting hands on our little tricolor doe, but the new environment basically made her a different goat. I guess she felt like the open space was too open and she needed to run away-- now she's a lot more relaxed and we can handle her for the first time without trauma-- who knew??
The babes sure love hanging out in the barn staying out of the chilly wind!

The ladies have nice, clean, quiet neighbors on one side...

(Those are broad breast white hens and 2 very young fall fire toms)

But no neighborhood is complete without *those* neighbors.... loud... messy... randy....immoral... ducks and geese. For pure entertainment of course.

I like how the pen came out... I think I'm going to collect on all that free sod people dump on craigslist in spring and put it down. It would be perfect with some grass in.

Not having to put in more fencing was one of the highlights of my life- contratulations on your success.

oof... If only. We will be doing 6 ft. chain link perimeter fence around 3 sides of the 2 and 1/3rd acres + cross fencing a 1 acre pasture after tax rebate time and I will be about 5 mos preggers at that time.

Congrats;it looks great! We need to fence our place too-fence was put up in 1975. I asked for a nubile young man for Christmas-to put up all 2 miles of perimeter (only) fencing. DH and I aren't quite up to getting it done quickly.
