Tis the Season

To ask for new hoof trimmers under the tree.
Mine are pretty dull - does any place sharpen them?

What kind do you have, where did you get them and how much do they sell for? What do you like about them and what would you change?

Bob is good at sharpening things. We use the orange handled ones I think they were $23 some six years ago.

I got these because Emily recommended them. Used them once so far and I liked them. I don't know how long they will last but figured with all the goats she has they must be good

You can take them apart and sharpen them. But they get loose after a while depending on how much you use them.. After they get so old I just use them to cut strings etc...

this is what I use too. I have really liked them and at the moment have 2 pairs. they can be sharpened if you know how. They seem to last longer if cleaned well between uses.

I bought mine in the garden center at Meijers when we 1st got goats almost 7 years ago & they are still really sharp. Don't remember the brand but they are like rose trimmers. The blades are straight & about 2 to 2 1/2 inches long. I really like them.

Michiganfarmer here at HT has a machine shop & I know he always appreciates the business. Shouldn't cost to much to ship them if in a plastic coated bubble envelope with something over the tip. You could send him a PM to find out how much or his telephone & contact info is in his profile. He's a really good guy, he's my cousin but still a good guy!

Now I'm going to have to look & see if I can see a name on them, find out if they still carry them although I might have to wait until spring or maybe can order directly from the company.
If I can find any or any info I'll let you guys know.
Have to work today but I'll try & get a picture of them & post it tomorrow.

I use the orange handled ones. Hoegger sells replacement springs and a sharpener. I thought mine were dull because they kept catching when they were closed. I was ready to toss them. I replaced the spring and they were good again. Mine are about 4 years old and still going strong.

I use the orange handled ones from Hoeggers as well. I've had them since I first got into goats. My husband sharpened them for me and they were good as new.
