New Here!

Hi everyone! I have just joined this forum. I raise alpines, Nigerians, and my favorite, mini alpines! I am working hard to develop and improve the breed. I just learned AI this year, and will be having my first AI mini's born this coming spring. I live on 40 acres near Buhl, ID (S. Central ID), but only a small amount of that is actually fenced for the goats, unfortunately. My father-in-law owns the property, and we live in his basement. Besides the goats we also have Finn sheep, llamas, and a calf now and then. (Oh, and my father-in-law has chickens). I am on a dairy goat forum, which some of you may know me there...but it isn't much of a place for friendship, just info, so thought it'd be fun to join one with both!

BTW, what does this mean? LOL.

Hi Nancy! I raise Alpines as well, and plan to do Mini-Alpines in the future. Just did A.I. for the first time this fall as well! I bred my girls to Pearl Valley Yreka's Legacy.

To put in a signature, go to the top of the page and click "USER CP", navigate to "signature", and put in what you like. I believe there is a character limit.

Welcome to the forum!

Edited to add: "L33T" is an old geek term, from WAY back in the day (80's Message Boards and MicroMuse Chat) that is code for "eeleet" or "elite". The emoticon means "I was born in the know", or "I was born THIS cool!"

Haha, Caliann, I bought some semen from Jonathan in his herd sellout as he was driving by me. I have one more doe left to bred this year, an alpine, Soldier-Mtn Forrest Flora, who I am going to AI to Pearl Valley Yreka Laredo. Must be a brother to the buck you used.

I'm still not seeing the signature section, maybe I am blind! Or maybe newbies can't put them in until they are over a certain number of posts.

I AI'd 2 other does this year that probably have settled (waiting on blood tests, but haven't come back in) for a friend-both saanens. One a dry yearling, and one a milking yearling.

If you go to my website- Sweetwater Farm you can see my alpines and mini's. I have the first finished mini alpine buck (not official yet)! I am pretty proud of my start to the minis thus far. If you look in this forum, there is a link to the V-show Jr does, and in that ring the CH and RCh are both mine.

Thank You So Much! I had no idea what this meant. I look at it occasionally and ponder, "What dose that mean?" I just figured it was something else that went over my head.

Hi Nancy!!! So happy you joined..... Now I can bug you via FB, DGI & here!

For your signature, somewhere on the upper left of the forum should be a thing that says "User CP"... That's your control panel and you can access your profile edits there

You might have to do a certain number of posts to have a signature.

Under "User CP" (which is at the upper left of the screen, right under the "Homesteading Today" logo), when you click on it, the page should have a menu on your left hand side. Under "Edit Details" there should be a list and "Edit Signature" *should be* right under "Edit Avatar", and *should be* the second choice under that heading.

If it isn't, that probably means you have to do more posts to be allowed to have a signature.

~smiles~ I've been to your site before. I LOVE your goats! I have Soldier Mountain lines myself. Two of my herd have Italian Ice as a granddam. I have been having EXCELLENT results with Soldier Mountain, Jobi, and IDGRC lines. (One of my girls has Jobi Brightly as a granddam. I also have a Brightly daughter, but she turned out to be a hermie. Her breeder and I nearly cried over that.)

Tracy is a member here and occasionally chimes in.

Hey Nancy, long time no see, LOL!

There were triplet bucks in that litter -- Legacy was the Spotlight Sale buck, Jonathan kept Laredo, and Lamont went to Ric Metts in Texas, and then to Chris Edwards.

Well, I am crossing my fingers that the two girls I A.I'd to Legacy took. They are both IDGRC does, and if I get doelings, then next year I'll likely put them to my buck that is your Ice's grandson. Your Ice's granddaughter I am keeping open this year and will put her to a nice Jobi buck in late spring.

Does Jobi have a website? The Jobi I know of has Nigerians, but maybe they have both?

When did you AI your does? The ones I did have either passed their 30 days or are coming up on it next week. Flora is just coming into heat tonight...she is a heck of a mucous-maker, LOL. She is not showing any signs yet though, weirdo. It's nice having watched her through a couple cycles, because now I know I should AI her at about 24 hours...she has been in heat for more than 24, but less than 36 each time-I will keep an eye and make sure it's the same, but nice to have an idea!

I am a Certified Vet Tech (not currently working) and where I went to college isn't too far from me, so I'm having the students out here and to the friend's place to get some practice drawing blood (we're both gonna do our CAE testing, so they'll have plenty to draw) and maybe do some hoof trims and whatever else I can think of for them to do. It would probably be faster for me to just do the draws myself, but it should be fun!

Thanks for the compliments on my goats everyone! They are a good start, and I see the improvements I need to make in my head now. I am planning to do LA next summer (and hopefully Classification with the minis as they are working out a deal for the classifiers to do minis, yay!), and that should give me even more info on where to go.

Tracy-can you send me your thoughts on the AI'ing Flora to Laredo? I keep looking at what alpines I have in my tank, and I think he would be the best of the bucks I have for her.

I guess I don't have access to my signature line yet-I have been to where you guys are telling me, and it's not there.

What kind of pictures do you guys want? I have mostly show posed ones (even though some are awful-example being Flora on my site-that's a pretty terrible pic, and Lulu, one of the ND's)...let me see what I can dig up.

Okay, I've got some pics. First, let me say, my goats obviously don't always behave for posing for pictures! LOL.

Here is FMG Blackberry, after she went RCh Jr. Doe in two rings at the ISDGA show in Boise, ID in May. She was bred at the time, due in August.
New Here! - Goats

Here she is after freshening. I am so happy she freshened well, she is just such a love and I didn't want to have to sell her!
New Here! - Goats

This is the buck she was bred to, who was BBIS in two rings at the same show as Blackberry, finishing his championship. His name is MilkMaidRanch N Memphis. His topline is not nearly as wonky as it looks here, but could be better.
New Here! - Goats

Here is the doeling she had (she had a buckling too, who I donated to MDGA for an auction fundraiser). She was 1st in her class in both rings of the most recent MDGA V-show and took grand in one ring as the youngest doe in the show!! She is only a month old in these pics.
New Here! - Goats

She has a really nice escutcheon. I am going to put a rear shot so you can see. I don't think this picture does it all that much justice though, but I am excited to see what she puts there come next fall!
New Here! - Goats

Had about enough yet? If you go to my website, and also the last 3 or 4 V-shows on MDGA's website, you can see more of my mini's. I like them best, though I have some good alpines and Nigerians too.

Oops, doeling's name is FMG Berries N'Cream, aka Cream (because Berry would be confusing with also having a Blackberry!).

Blackberry is a yearling ff, and Memphis is a 2 year old.

I just remembered this one that is way too cute not to share! It's my little girl, Wren, and one of the mini doelings. She was about 18-20 months here. She will be 2 on Dec 14!

I A.I'ed them on the 3rd of October. I was going to get them ultrasounded, but the good doctor has had a busy schedule. I'm going to pull blood next week.

JoAnne Jelke of Jobi Dairy does NOT have a website. She doesn't even have a public e-mail address. Yes, she does Nigerians, and is famous for them, and she also does Alpines. Several of her Alpines have been on the Top 10 producers.

She is a terrific lady, and I LOVE her barn. She is also very honest. When my Brightly daughter, Bamboo, turned out to be an hermaphrodite, after we basically cried over it (Bamboo is *gorgeous*, and it is a crying shame she cannot be bred), all she had to say was, "When can you come get your replacement?"

(Cypress, the replacement, is a gorgeous cou blanc. Mrs. Jelke does not breed ugly goats. She also doesn't breed poor producers. Anything that comes out of her barn is going to produce, period.)

OOooohh, and love your kid with kid picture!

All of your goats are lovely!
