My DD graduated with an English undergraduate degree, then majored in Medieval Literature. Finally all that education is paying off!
Here's what she wrote for me today:
by "Edgar Allen Goat"
Once upon a barnyard dreary,
While I baa-ed, weak and weary,
Over many a pile of old and moldy hay.
I did wonder why that farmer,
If I didn't soon alarm her,
Would get a brand new bale for me today.
On the edge I saw a mass
Of poison ivy and sassafras,
But I could only stare and drool and gape.
Then I saw some honeysuckle,
But the fence, it wouldn't buckle,
So I knew that I soon must plan escape.
I knew that my little hooves
Could swing the gate until it moves,
And make a space just for a little goat.
So I carried out my plan,
Without the fence I ran and ran,
And shoved delicious berries down my throat.
After I had finished eating,
(Quietly, without bleating)
I wondered what was left for me to do.
Then I wandered down the driveway
Knowing that I had it my way,
While I looked for something else to chew.
Suddenly the humans found me,
So they grabbed my chain and bound me,
Way back in that old barnyard that's a bore.
Now I'm stuck here chewing cud,
Staring at the grass and mud,
And planning to escape again once more.
She loves the goats as much as I do
