Selling meat wethers off the farm

We've had a few inquiries about selling live wethers for butcher. Since we are still in the begining stages I'm not quite ready. I am looking to buy a used scale so we both get a fair price. The butcher shop will weigh, but they don't do it at drop off and I'd rather have the money up front. I'm thinking an additional delivery fee of $25 is not out of line since the shop is 23 miles away.

Any thoughts? How do others weigh goats they sell off the farm?

And does someone have a good idea or site for live:butcher weight percantages?

You could just step on a scale with the goat in your arms and then weigh yourself and subtract... take that weight and multiply by your price per pound. Tell folks they can pick up the goat and take it to the butcher (or home for those who can butcher a deer) or they can pay you an extra $25.00 to drop off at the butcher and then they will pay the butcher for kill, cut and wrap.

You could also just say, pick a goat - $125.00. (that is just an example).

Boer goats are generally 50-60% yield. Dairy goats are 40-50% yield, at least the better dairy goats, lots of bone on a dairy goat in relation to muscle.

Yep, get your money up front.

Thanks. I think we will go with a base price until we get a livestock scale. I have a time weighing them on the human scale once they get 60pounds or so.
