Oak, pine, cedar, walnut, hickory, mesquite, mimosa, lespedeza, poison ivy, American Beauty Berry, autumn olive, bois d' arc, dogwood, kudzu, and whatever else grows naturally in a forest where you are.

NOT rhododendron or azalea.

VARIETY. The more diverse, the more they are able to pick and choose to meet their needs. Trees, shrubs, woody plants, vines... They often prefer different plants during different stages. Some "weeds" according to cattleman or horsemen's standards are some of their favorites. I can only speak to what grows here in Georgia. I would add to Alice's list: mulberry, blackberry rambles, and wild rose.

A good many asian ornamental plants are poisonous, most North American native plants are not.

If you are improving a pasture, any buck plot seed is a good start.

I wish there were such a thing as warm season buck plot, as well. I guess there isn't a spring or summer hunting season anywhere. Although if someone were to develop a warm season blend, I'm sure it would include all those tasty things for which deer are known to raid the vegetable garden!
