Question Questions on Red Cell

Okay, folks as I stated on my other thread, I HAVE RED CELL!!!!!!

I couldn't wait to give it to Bonsai, so I gave him 6 cc. He's lost a lot of weight and I am thinking that he's about 100 pounds, so that's what I gave him. Do I give it for a week, is that what I'm understanding? Tomorrow will be the third and final dose of Ivermectin in a row for him, and I gave him some Pepto-Bismol tonight because he has thick, pudding like diarrhea, and is too weak to stand, again. We did get him up, but he just couldn't walk. Anyway, I started him on the Red cell, as I stated, but I want to be certain I'm giving it to him in the right dosage and for the right amount of time. Please be sure to let me know.

Thanks for all the advice, and here's praying he'll make it now. About how long does it take for this Barber pole worm to leave the host and the bottlejaw to go away?

Mine were showing a difference in energy level within one week. About 3 weeks to start putting weight back on. The anemia took a little longer. There is no mistaking when they've healed completely, they'll gain weight exponentially!

If you can find a vet to do a fecal sample, I would strongly recommend it(maybe wait a week or two). That will tell you if your dewormer is effective. It will also verify what type of worms you are dealing with. A reasonable fecal will cost $10-$20 but it will save you in the long run from wasting time and money if your dewormer is ineffective.

okay

Well, on the other post everyone was telling me barber pole worms are what cause the bottle jaw, and I have now given (tomorrow), 3 days of ivermectin at 6 cc each day. He's about 100 pounds and I dose at 3 cc per 50 pounds, so hopefully after 3 days of that, the worms should be gone, but I have also been giving him Resorb each day (tomorrow will be day 3), and Pepto-Bismol when I see the diarrhea coming on, plus some kelp drops. Now that I have the red cell, that will replace the kelp drops. He is eating goat pellets, some oats, grass hay, and his minerals, plus we are keeping him on plenty of nice warm water. He has gained weight on the above over the past 1-1/2 days, it is readily seen, but he's just very weak. I'm so anxious to see him standing again. Scares me that he's just not ever going to get up.

He's eating and drinking, and the scours are under control. Sounds like you are on the right track. The anemia will cause weakness and lethargy. But resting is not a bad thing.

scours

Well, the scours are not under control yet, but hopefully by morning, cause I gave him a pretty good dose of Pepto tonight, so I'm really hoping that's going to stop. I'm sure that's where the lethargy is coming from.

I had a doe with bottle jaw this summer. I did the deworming process and started her on red cell and I am still giving it to her 2-3 x a week. Her eyelids are gradually becoming pinker and she is looking good but she is also pregnant so I feel like anything I can give her right now will help her.
