OT: Explosion in my house!
Not in any way goat related, but DH was just lighting and feeding up 'the last fire of the season' in the living room, while I had my head in the fridge deciding which dressing to put on the garden salad when there was a bang like a shotgun went off in the living room.
Now, dont get me wrong. I love this man. But never in my gosh darned life would I believe that I married such a fool. He had lit the fire and then placed the butane lighter back on the woodstove cooktop. I'm still just shaking my head, heart rate slowly returning to normal. His reaction to fear is to laugh like a loon, while mine is to yell and hit him. FOOL!!!

I hope that everyone is ok. At least you could put humor in your story!

Well it's laugh or cry. No one was hurt and it's too late to do anything because I already married him!

I feel your pain. My hubby keeps wanting to put the butane lighter in his shirt pocket while he's doing fires. Uh, NO!

Oh gosh! What is wrong with men? I have a son that is a pyro and does some really stupid things and has some scars to show it. Big dummy.
I hope your heart recovers soon from such a fright and that you didn't leave too big of a knot on his head....

Men seem to damage both themselves and their environment with fire and knives.
That is why I am convinced that it was a woman who discovered both. No man would have done anything with fire except dare his buddies to jump over it/through it. Only a woman would have thought, "Hey, I could use this to keep the cave warm!"
Same with knives. A man finding a sharp, broken off piece of flint would have used it for a practical joke. A woman finding a sharp, broken off piece of flint would have thought, "Hey, I could use this to hack up mammoth steaks!"

BUT...In the interests of fairness, I have to confess to something dumb I did last week too. In my defense I had a slight head cold.
I bought myself an expensive bottle of white wine as a treat, and put it on the bench when I got home, was looking very foward to a chilled glass over the weekend.
Earlier in the week I had filled an old wine bottle with water to use as a weight to lightly press a soft cheese, had left it on the bench.
Now DH as we know is not a big one for housework, but for some strange reason in a fit of domestic helpfulness, he had emptied the bottle of water and put it in the recycle bin.
Anyway, Fri evening I was tidying the kitchen, grabbed what i thought was a bottle of water and poured it down the sink. Noticed a waft of wine, but figured it was just the dregs in the water, didnt think much of it.
Saturday night was all eager to watch the sunset and sip a wine, was hunting high and low for that good bottle. Called out to DH who knew nothing. I told him 'I know I put it right here on the bench and I did not move it. But I emptied out the other bottle that was sitting....uh-oh.....'
He remarked, 'I emptied out that bottle of water a few days ago, what was that for?'
So $20 down the drain, literally. And no wine the weekend :-(

Cool! Can you tell us what it is about men and knives, and whittling things such as Grandma's antique dresser?

The knife is for making dull sticks into sharp pointy stakes and spears for jabbing the things that go over the good fire. Explosions are just antiquities version of the microwave--everyone must get to eat sooner. So yeah, fires are cool and explosions are awesome when no one gets hurt. (sorry Ani)
The dresser was just practice.
