Update on doeling
She is still up this morning. She seems more alert than last night. Dh had to go to work and, when his truck pulled out of the drive, she cried a real "bleat" and not that pained, high pitched, sound that she was making when he called me the other day. That was the first sound I have heard her make since the dc and I got home last night.
She is not out of the woods by any means at all. Dh and my friend came up with a "concoction" that she is eating every 4-6 hours, but still no hay. She is drinking on her own. We are still giving her penicillin, Banamine and thiamine. She is coughing and chewing - perhaps cudding? I am not sure what she has in her to cud, but it isn't a pained cough or a lung-type cough. She just gives a little cough and then chews a little. She has had a few liquid stools. She still seems a bit "blind", the vet didn't know if that was from all the meds he loaded her with or if that is part of what is wrong with her.
I am on my way out right now with her breakfast dose of "concoction" and needles.
Thank-you all for your support. If any of you have any other thoughts, I would appreciate them.

Thanks, Minelson!
She is English Rose and the doeling that has followed me around rather then running with the herd ever since they were just a couple of weeks old. My favorite of this years kids, of course. Only, I think from now on, Rosie is Dh's goat.

We talked to the vet & my friend. They said to stop the Banamine now, and reduce the pen and thiamine to 1x per day. Continue the probiotics.
She has had hay in her mouth a couple times when we went in, and her stools are getting thicker. Right now she is up and staring, but if we go in with her, she perks up and moves around.
The dc found mushrooms in the goat pen. I wonder if she ate some and that is what triggered this? Dh has been so busy, he did not notice and they spring up quickly when we get a lot of moisture here.

Glad she is doing better.
Psilocybin mushrooms could cause her symptoms, especially if she ate them in quantity. It could be that she wasn't blind, she was just hallucinating.
You might take some of the mushrooms down to your extension agent and see if they are the alkaloid-containing kind. At any rate, until you know, I would clear them completely out of the goat pen.

They were gone within a minute of being noticed. We will watch for them (if it stays damp, I am sure there will be more) and take a sample before we take them down next time.
She is the goat that eats off the ground the most, which is why worms were one of my first thoughts. It would not surprise me if she did eat some mushrooms.
She still acts as though she cannot see. could that be from the meds or could the effect of the mushrooms last that long?

As someone who spent her college days high on pretty much anything she could find (yeah, I had a *wild* youth; I am so boring now), I can say that consuming too much of ANY psychodellic can cause a trip that lasts for days, or even up to two weeks. (Knew a guy who mistakenly consumed a tablespoon of straight, liquid, LSD, instead of the diluted rinse water he intended to consume, and he didn't come down for nearly a month.)
It *could* be the meds. It COULD be that she, being a rebellous youth, attempted to "experiment" with some funny tasting mushrooms. It *could* be polio, and she will recover after her thiamine levels come up.
~sighs~ This is the difficulty with not knowing the exact cause. All that can be done is provide supportive care an hope. If it is, indeed, funny mushrooms, she should improve on her own in a few more days. Give her Vit. C to help her system rid itself of the alkaloids.
If it is polio, she needs thiamine, or you can just keep giving her injections of B-Complex, and it will correct itself eventually.
Basically, all I can say is throw the non-harmful book at her and keep providing supportive care.

Wow! Then you could sell them and make tons of money....I'll buy some
It seems you are dong all you can. I would go with the polio if I were bettin on it. So keep up the thaimine or whaterver polio protocol is best for that. If it's shrooms then all I think you can do is keep her very hydrated to flush it out. I think it's been too long for activated charcoal. But I may be wrong about that. ((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))

~ponders~ Coccidia will leach thiamine out of a goat's system and lead to polio. Maybe a dose of Baycox?

I don't think I have any Baycox. Can I get that at TSC? How much, how often and how is it administered?
We are doing as you said and hitting her with anything that can't hurt. She is still staring into space. Will pull away when getting something she doesn't like. Temp was 101.4*, but that was after the Banamine and she kept fighting me, so I am not entirely sure if that is accurate. Poops are runny with berries in them. She had two this evening while I was milking.
We treated with Corid and use medicated feed. Could it still be cocci?
Thanks, Caliann! Keep pondering!
ETA: Minelson, after your post, I went out and gave her another dose of (looked at the bottle - Dh just gave it to me and said "here is your b-vitamin stuff") Thiamin. Will keep that up! Thanks!

Baycox is Rx stuff here in the states. Didn't know if you had jumped on the bandwagon and ordered it out of Canada like some of us. When was the last time she was treated for coccidia?

Nope. Clueless as usual. Do have a great vet, tho. I can call him Monday.
The usual treatment. My brain turns off after they get weaned and I have to look schedules up, so about the end of April? I need to look. She has been on medicated feed since they started eating grain.

If she tend to eat a lot of dirt and whatnot, medicated feed might not be enough to keep them down, especially if any worm load decided to lower her immune system.
I am just trying to think of things that would compromise her thiamine.

Hee hee! I can sooo relate with the leaving town! And I am going on a short trip soon and I'm already stressed about what my hubby will do! Your hubby did great with the doeling though. Kudos to him! Praying for Rosie
