What do you think of this guy?

Proven Registered Nubian Buck for Sale! - Goats - Pets and Livestock - Provo - For Sale - Classifieds | ksl.com

Here is his pedigree. Goat Detail: WILLOW-LANE ODYSSEY - N001382256 (AM Buck)

I know it's not the best picture but any advice? I obviously can't pick a buck to save my life so I'd like to call in the experts. I know he's American but it's not as big of a deal in my area. I saw some of her goats when I went to the fair. They all appear healthy but I will still get testing done before he comes home. It kind of worries me because there won't be time for a long quarantine. He would be getting down to business in the next few weeks.

Stupid Jagger.

Do you test for G6S? Beaujolais is normal according to the database but I didn't find any Willow-Lane animals there. If I were buying a Nubian buck for that price...it would be a "condition of sale".

Besides that, I would jump at him. He has all the qualities I would be looking for...except for spots.

Personally, with the exteme bias in Nubians against Americans, I would pass on him.

I'd consider an American doe or 2, but an American buck that will make my entire kid crop American? No way.

I *have* to have kid sale $$ in order to keep my goats, so limiting the # of potential buyers (those who only want PB) like this would kill me. Even if the bias wasn't as strong here, I still wouldn't want an American Nubian buck..... JMO

And I agree with Gena, on a buck, I'd like to know his G6S status....

Willow Lane tests for G6S. They have one buck who is a carrier. Jacob's Pride Jame. He isn't in this bucks bloodline that I could see. My buck that I have is just a little too closely related to a few of my does to make me comfortable. I know I could use him and cull heavily but I'd rather just find an additional buck. Ugh.

You're welcome. I know someone in N Utard that has some nice Nigies if you're looking.

Join the NubianTalk yahoo group. Once in, go to their yahoo webpage and on the left click "database". You'll see the G6S database at the top of the list. You can search and even add if you have tested.

I don't like the ear set on him but that is just me, I am not a nubian breeder but if I was looking I would like better ears on my buck. Other than that I think he is a nice looking fellow, but I would love to see his dam, granddam and sisters.

Personally, I would not pay that much for him. Not that he might not be worth it, BUT.....

With the extreme, stupid, ignorant, foolish, etc bias there is in the Nubian world against American Nubians, it would effect my future kid sales. Stupid, yes, but I have to consider that. Does that tick me off?? Yes.

I will have American does, no problem. Love Americans. Would I buy and use an American buck? Yes, if I liked him well enough. Would I pay that much for him? No, unforunately I could not justify it. I would have lost sales due to all his kids being American. I would have slower doe sales and zero buck sales. Because no one wants an American buck to use over their Purebred does. All the kids become American.

Ridiculous predjudice. Stupid predjudice. I swear, we Nubian breeders are the SNOBBIEST goat people in the world.

He looks like a really nice buck. Needs ears maybe, but he does seem to throw some good stuff.
But again, price is high.
I'd want to see a lot of dam, grandam, etc pictures also.

Dam appraised 90. PTA for milk is +157 PTA for type 0

Sire GCH
PTA for milk - 97 PTA for type -.5
83% reliability on the type score.

I'd like it better if both parents had postive PTA's for milk.

The seller says he's great but if you go to ADGAGENETICS there are no daughters with either milk records or appraisal scores to back it up.

I don't think I'd pay 500.
