We had a huge tree in our front yard. Canopied the whole west side of the house and blocked the wind. It was flurishing last year. This year it was stone dead So we had to cut it down. The logs are huge. the bitty pieces of broken sticks is in the ga-gillions. We are saving the big logs but everything else is getting burned in the pit when we get some snow.
The loss of this tree changes the whole "feel" of the house right now. And it's been cut down for around a month but it's just been too dang hot to work on it enough. Today hubby is getting a lot of the logs moved.

I am sorry for your loss. We, too, have huge trees in the front yard, Enormous Sycamores that stand like centurions. A few years ago we lost the weeping willow that was the focal point of our front yard in an ice storm. The children were devastated. Trees are a VERY big deal.

Wow has everyone grown!

We used to have this honkin cedar tree with trunks that sort of tuliped out. It was a beautiful tree, made a great fort for the children but it blocked the sun from the south. I kind of wanted it taken down but it was too pretty,
One yr a strong wind blew it down from it's roots.
The whole house was lit up after it was taken out.

Tinker is still teeny tiny She looks bigger than what she is in the pictures. I carry her around all the time and she fits on my lap under the steering wheel in the truck. (oh that sounds real safe when I type it out!) Really, she is calm and content.

All of my north-facing windows look out to the pond, which in good years is surrounded by trees, and has pond flowers blooming.

Last year's drought completely dried up my pond. This spring, the God-knows-how old weeping willow just fell down....and the 40ft cedar on the other side is dead, dead, dead.

Now that it is fall, I will go and drag out the willow, and cut down the cedar...but I will miss the look they gave the pond.

Your husband is so lucky to have so much help. I'm sure he has gotten twice as much work done with them to help.

Your babies are so beautiful!

Those are fly boots. They just chew the heck out of her legs if I don't put those on. And she thinks they are zesty!

Very cool! I should get some for Ishtar. I've never understood why donkeys' legs are so ultra-attractive to flies. Compared to horses' legs, that is.
