Got the replamin today :)

I immediately opened the package and got to administering. Taste tests are in:
1) Billy (i have to walk by his pen to get to the girls so he got it first) He INHALED it! I nearly did not get the tube back from him. He clamped down with his teeth and started to yank it out of my head.
2) Bella (or Ms. Priss as I like to call her since she is the pickiest eater i've ever seen) she actually ate it with a few head shakes and a snort.
3) Betsy--the one who needs it from the pictures in my earlier post. No go. The other 2 I was actually able to give through the fence and I tried to do so with her but she profusely spit it right back out at me.. I had to get in the pen with her. She is so skittish with us so I'm thankful we had left her collar on her. I was able to grab her, straddle her and head lock her AND put the gel in her mouth. AND she swallowed it. yay.

Ya know, the two goats that needed that most in my herd I had to do that to. Head lock and all. All the others were fighting to get it. I had some on my finger and one goat tried to bite my finger off with the replamin! *ouch* it hurt!
The sheep were even trying to get at it (no, they can't have any!)
I need to go shove some more down my old girls' throats. It really helped a lot.

I hope this won't be a thread hijack, but I want to tell what has now happened using this gel....my nasty milk is GONE. yup. gone. today I am making cheese with 6 day old milk (4 days was sour a short time ago) and its deeply sweet and creamy. I am milking 2 does, one had milk that was nasty-sour-bitter by day 4, the other's milk was ok, but still not really great, it was 'strong', like canned milk flavor. ALL the jars are now that super creamy sweet, almost half/half taste again!

I gave nilla, the sour one, a double up dose like caliann said she did to her one goat. the other I just gave one dose per week. I used an old safeguard tube, it goes thru well enough, but I gotta fight them both, they do not like it! I might try a peanut butter mix/crackers or something. dont' care to fight em, but hey, I am LOVING the milk!

Oh chewie! That's so great! I have been worried about your girl and what could possibly be wrong with her, and it's super nice to know that you don't have to dry her off and the problem is fixed! Thanks!

and am I happy! deep down, I just kept thinking its not me, its her, but not sickly. after the milk test came back squeaky clean, then I knew for sure. hubs noticed too, and I never said a word. in fact, one of the kiddos said 'hey mom, that 9 milk (the date on the jar) is REALLY good! ahhh, music!

nope, not gonna dry her up til I need to. making lots of cheddar. and greek yogurt! then take that yogurt, add some orange juice, a bit of sugar and vanilla, and wow, a smoothie delux!

thanks so much cali for posting it, finding it, doing the homework so I could jsut order and dose! I plan to keep getting it. they can have the minerals out, but they aren't going after them much. I do wish they'd take it better tho, its still a fight.

I find that very exciting and interesting. What it means is we don't have to figure out exactly WHICH mineral is out of balance for each goat exhibiting problems!! WOO HOO!

What I love is that I don't have to depend upon the goat to eat her minerals! That's always a big thing, too. You see that two goats in your herd are exhibiting symptoms of cobalt deficiency. You put out a cobalt block and every goat in the herd EXCEPT the ones showing deficiency attack it. The two that need it will avoid it like it will bite them if they get too close.

I call it their "Flintstone Vitamin", and they get it whether they want it or not. Now, I no longer have to worry or wonder who is getting what. I *know*, and that makes SUCH a difference!

yup, I still don't know exactly what was so far off. its still plenty warm too, so its not just heat induced but I do feel that had something to do with it. the vet wanted me to send in more milk, blood and do more tests=$$$$. I dosed nilla double the first week, now on fridays they get a squirt. easy. done.

and now, I don't have to copper bolus either, correct?

That is correct. I haven't bolused at all this year....and not a fishtail or coppery hair to be found in my herd.

Do you think they need to be Bo-Se'd before breeding if they're getting the replamin and will be dosed with it through their pregnancy? I was going to Bo-Se tomorrow but figured I should probably ask.

The girls didn't get Bo-Se before breeding, because I didn't know any of them were going to breed!

They did not get Bo-Se before kidding, because I did not know their due dates. Everyone was born fine with no troubles or wobbly legs.

I am not going to Bo-Se the two I am A.I'ing in October. I'll let you know in November how that goes for settling.

I am not going to suggest that you do or don't Bo-Se, because frankly, it is my first season using the gel. It depends a lot on your area, also. The gel DOES have both selenium and Vit. E., but there is a federal limit to how much selenium is allowed in animal supplements, due to the fine line of toxicity. The gel may or may not have enough for your goats in your area.

Not to hijack either about the gel, week 3 and no change in attitude towards accepting it. I still have to force feed EVERYone but Shaq my oldest buck. He does it like mommaC's Billy...he will chase me for more LOL
yes everyone's coat's are looking great! No more flaky skin, or even suggestions of fishtail cept Pebbles cause she has a spot there that makes it look fishtaily but its not.
Just wish there was an easier way to convince my "girls" that they want it, tried cookies, and chips no go and then its wasted so ..straddle, leg lock, left thumb in mouth yeeehaw didn't know my mini saanen could twist and turn to much!!

Okay - guess I'm out of the loop on this one! *blush*
Is replamin like a vitamin gel?
How often do you give it?
Shameless plugs for your fav. place to get it?

As i stated on another thread, we just gave the gel to all of our bucks. Do you think it will effect the semen like they say Bo-Se can? I was wondering about this but it is early enough in the season I want to start anyway. Do you think the dose is small enough that it shouldn't effect it?

I wondered the same thing..... I was told Bo-Se effects sperm motility.... I gave my mom's young buck Bo-Se & had planned to use him later..... Then a few days after the Bo-Se, her girls cycled & she couldn't wait to breed them. Thought it was a mistake, but the lil guy produced nothing but twins & triplets on 5 does, and only 2 buck kids....

I gave Tonka Bo-Se, not planning to use him & 2 weeks later Casper cycled & I decided to go ahead and breed her despite knowing I'd have May kids.... Kidded with healthy twins....

So, to sum it up, I basically don't worry about it I gave my boys Bo-Se 3 weeks ago and am waiting for my girls to start cycling.... I'm not doing the Replamin on the bucks simply because Austin is still not the easiest to catch & Tonka hates the stuff..... Too much on my plate right now to do that fight every week, then have to go bleach myself afterwards.

Most of the girls like it quite a bit though and I'm seeing coat improvements on my black lamancha doe
