Buckling "horndog"

Came home yesterday to discover my 15 week old buckling quite enthusiastically breeding a 9 month old doeling . She was not interested but boy was he going to town while she had her head in the feeder. She is too closely related to him so I will have to lute her, but who would have thought he could even reach her! He's not even weaned yet for crying out loud so now I've got to worry about him breeding his mother while she's laying down. He is large for his age as he was a singleton but he showed no previous signs of what I call "precocious rut" - never even saw him unsheath his penis before when playing with the other bucklings.

What a year this has been. Out of 13 kids born, 1 doeling, 1 hermie and 11 bucklings. Remember those old wives tales about if women wanted to have girls they should have sex standing up or something? I wish there was something like that for goats! My buck usually throws about 50/50 but not this year. Sure hope next year is different!

Oh, heavens, yes! My little buckling was 16 weeks old on Sunday, and he's been humping his poor brother few quite a few weeks already. He would really like to get in with the girls and they would really like that too, but I want to wait a bit yet.

hehe! had one of those 2 years ago, this guy was doing the flapping and pawing at 3 weeks! oh no! I had planned to let him be on mom as long as possible but at 2 months, I took him out. kept him for a breeder, as I didn't have a buck lined up and he was stout! was also very mellow and nice temprement. he made me several very nice kids and I would've kept him but hubs didn't care for him, he already stunk worse than any other we ever had by 9 months! someone showed up and asked what we'd take for him, a cross bred unpapered major stink-pot. they agreed to $150, so hey, bye oliver! hubs happy, hay bill paid, no more stink!

Yup, you've got to get them out of the kid pen by 12 weeks at the VERY latest. Ten weeks is better. Behavior before that most likely isn't producing fertile sperm, but they do get fertile by 12 weeks.
