Height of play toys?

I see photos of goats on tall toys and natural structures-boulders, etc. How high is too high? I just got some large spools, but am worried about the goats falling off and breaking a leg.

I am planning on building ramps up to them and covering the holes on the end.

Any advice on toy height?

My tallest one is five feet. I have seen my Mini Mancha doe leap from the top of it with wild abandon.

Taller then I would like him on lol. Let's also not forget he gets up on our tractors cab. He has yet to break anything but has added tons of grey hair to my head.

I don't see anyone getting hurt on a spool. Wish I could find me some.

We have those really large spools too & so far they aren't too tall for any of the goats. We do have a set of steps to the top on each one though too so the little one's can go back down the steps if they want to instead of jumping off.

I have a 7-8 foot hight "tower"(platform with a ramp) that mine play on. I've watched my nubian doe and her doeling once leap off of it, with no issue. Haven't seen them do it since, thank goodness, but they stuck the landing and continued running with not a care in the world.

I wouldn't do anything higher than that really. The 15+ foot skylines and walkways you see would give me a heart attack.

Yanno, I have been considering dying my hair white, just to get a jump on the years and because it is more than halfway there already. Maybe I should just build the goats a 15-20' play tower instead?

I will admit "the tower" was not my idea. I had come home and my father-in-law built it because he wanted to watch the goats play. I called it the suicide platform for the longest time because I imagined maimed goats. Haven't seen any fall or get knocked off*knock on wood*.

It did save two of my three does the day we had a dog attack. To get to the top, the goats either have to have a running start or take their time and concentrate to get up the ramp. I came home to find 2 huddled at the top, the third fell victim. Anytime they see a dog or something scary the herd runs and hides on the tower. I really believe it is what got them up and out of harms way.
