Need Help for Sore Teat, Please
Our little ND doe, Morgan, has a sore on her teat that we can't figure out. She has "fish tail" teats with two functioning orifices on each teat. One orifice on each teat, though, seems more prominent. We hadn't planned to breed her because of this, but she had other plans. In May, she delivered a single, healthy buckling. He was wethered and sold a while back. When we sold him, we started milking her just to relieve her full udder, at first. It turns out that she's a pretty great little milker, especially for a first freshener. Anyway, yesterday evening, I noticed a small sore on one of the "extra" teats, and there was a small bump behind it. She was fidgety when I tried to milk that side. There is usually a small stream of milk from that side, but last night, very little came from there. Today, the sore is bigger, and that teat seems warm and a little swollen. The small bump behind the sore now feels like a harder knot. She did NOT want me to touch it, but I had to, and she wasn't happy at all.
I couldn't get any pictures tonight. It was too dark out there.
Any ideas on what this might be and how I can fix it for her? She's so sweet. I hate to see her in pain.
Oh, and her appetite and temp are normal.
