To lute or not to lute?
Well... Centurion busted in the girls pen. And I did not see it but almost sure he bred one of the baby girls. Chime... she will be 7 months on the 3rd of Sept. So do you think I should lute her or let her kid out?

Who were you planning to breed her to, and how much does she weigh?
If you were planning to breed her to Centurion anyway, and she is good sized, then I wouldn't lute her. If you had another breeding in mind, or she is behind the growth scale, then I would.

I was planning on breeding her to a different buck that Eric is in love with and I didnt plan on doing it until October. She is almost 80 if not there already. I weighed them about two weeks ago and she was 78 lbs.
Now I heard when you lute at such a young age it can affect later heat cycles. Have you heard this?

No, I have never heard of that. Maybe someone else has.
Lots of us have used lute to terminate an unwanted pregnancy (especially in a young doe), and have not noticed any effects later on.
If I had known about the fence break, Cypress would have been luted without a second thought.

At that weight, I would leave it. She is plenty big. Lute is a useful tool but in *my opinion* should only be used when really needed.
The only side effect lute is known to have is that it can cause cystic ovaries after use. In which case you give a shot of cystorellin which should fix that.
In case of a life-threatening pregnancies, I have used it without a second thought.
And yes, I have had it cause cystic ovaries. But only for that breeding season, it does not effect later years.

If you were just dead set on the other buck, then yes, lute her & try again.
If you're ok with the breeding & it will take your breeding program the direction you want it to go, then I'd just leave it be And who knows, this accident may just give you your favorite kids

Leave it. No harm done, and worst case scenario is you don't like the kids and you eat them. Best case they are stunning and lovingly sweet and improve your herd. Her size and weight are fine, that is what I shoot for in my yearlings.

Even 60 pounds isn't going to kill her. She still has 5 months to pack on some size and they grow fast with all of the pregnancy hormones. If she is filled out well and is growing steadily I wouldn't panic.

I still am going to lute her. I second guess myself with Monkey and we now have Booboo. Dont get me wrong I LOVE Boo but she is so small now and I feel guilty everytime I look at her. Chime is a show goat and I paid a lot for her so I want to give her, her best start in life.
