Strange question - performing goat

OK - so here is a question you probably don't get asked too often

DD has a pet wether that she is in the process of breaking to harness. He is a lovely beast, loves company, is incredibly gentle and very intelligent. DD wants to take him on stage for something next year.

I can see a few problems.......the lights, the hollowness of the stage, the noise, being just a few.

In principle I have said that she may do it, but that she has to work hard at training him so that it isn't traumatic for him.

Does anyone have ANY suggestions at all to help with this please?

He will be going out and about more next summer anyway, as he will very likely be taking part in a parade in the same week as the stage appearance.

Thanks in advance

Loud radios in the barn, taking him out in public a lot, socializing him to strange people and strange places. Check out how they accustom race horses to large crowds, as there will be lots of tips and tricks there. Also, look for resources on how to train performing dogs, as many of the techniques will transfer to goats.

~smiles~ Goats have been on stage for quite some time. Remember in The Waltons television show, they had a goat. That goat had to get used to cameras, lights, stage production, etc.

Thank you

I'll give her those to be working on.

My biggest concern is that because it is a once-off, he won't have time to get used to it so I think he needs to be as fully prepared as he can be.

Will go and look up the performing dogs now - think DD wants to teach him to dance

If it comes off it should be well worth a you tube video

DH says to look up "Youtube video--Darren the Waving Goat".

DH says that apparently a UK television show of amazing animals called up Darren's owner to invite him to the show, and that the owner thought it was a prank call and told them that Darren was interested; he was holding out for "Dancing with the Stars".

I can't wait to hear how she does. Personally I've been toying with the idea of an agility goat. Have to have the spacing on the bending poles pretty wide for my girls to get through.

They have agility competitions for pack goats! I saw a couple of videos of them while searching for videos of pack goats.

They are led through a course similar to an agility dog.... taking their time of course... You know those goats of ours, minds of their own.

It would be lovely to have another opportunity for a job and a home for those wethers.
Thanks for the links but unfortunately dial keeps me from watching videos. I will just have to use my imagination.

I think I would get him used to applause and cheering. If they come out on stage and people start to clap and hoot..she will want him to be prepared.

I can't wait to see this! Wish her the best from me!

Ummm...... He's not a fainting goat is he? That wouldn't mix well with thunderous applause.

LOL on Darren the waving goat he was quite enthusiastic about it too wasn't he ?

Agility looks great - think we might have to do some of that too - would be a great way for opening up his mind to new ideas too

If it comes off I will definitely post videos - might even put some up of the training process

Fainting goats You know what.....I almost wish he was now
