vetch?

i was browsing a seed co. site and vetch is listed as a compost/bare land cover and as a "staple" for farmers with livestock as well as an excellent crop for adding nitrogen back to the soil.. When dried it says it can have up to 25% protein. Is this a yes or no for goats?

Oh, and as a side note...I just want to say thanks to y'all. You've been so kind and so quick to answer my questions. Can't say that for other forums

I don't know about vetch, but I agree with you 100% about the folks on this forum!

I know that some (maybe all for all I know) vetches have a seed that is toxic to some livestock. So I would check the poisonious plants websires first.

My hay used to have a lot of vetch in it. The goats seemed to like it ok but it's hard to really keep much of it when it's baled. It shatters really easy and then the stems are really thick and dry out slow and often got mold on them.

Hairy vetch is for food and browse; milk vetch is for butterflies.

Thanks Common Vetch this is what I am talking about. it just says common vetch. I was considering planting it in one of my gardens now that I've had to pull all my squash out. this spot backs up to the goat pen so I was wondering after it sprouted if it would be good browse for them.
